Churchill Downs Pick of the Week for May 11

Saturday's ninth race at Churchill Downs is a second-level allowance for older horses, which also carries a $62,500 claiming option. The race has attracted graded stakes winners Funny Duck and Hawaakom, as well as Solomini, who was disqualified from a victory in the 2017 Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) and also placed in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) that year. As tempting as it might be to go with the confirmed class at a short price, the current form of all three leaves a bit to be desired. #8 MO'S MOJO (8-1), on the other hand, has been knocking on the door at this level down at Oaklawn for the last couple of months. Capable over dry and wet surfaces, Mo's Mojo has the tactical speed to find himself in a good striking position throughout. The addition of blinkers certainly seemed to help earlier this year as he was struggling to regain the form that enticed connections to try the 2017 Matt Winn (G3) off a maiden win, and he ran a good fourth there to McCraken. Although the Morse has been rather cold so far this season, Mo's Mojo has been one of their leading lights and looms a threat against this field with David Cohen up.   Churchill Downs scenic (c) Coady Photography
