The Levy legs at Yonkers on Saturday did not disappoint the public, as only one outsider at 5-1 was victorious. As predicted, the biggest choice, Something For Doc, was the only winner we delivered, ashamed with the win price of $2.10.
On Friday, at Yonkers, our Matchmaker choices delivered one in four, Feeling You at $3.90.
Our horses-to-watch (H2W) list, however, was afire out west, as Cal Expo winners dominated.

Flamboro Downs is feeling the crunch from the recent Canada-casino-racetrack crisis and will go from about 1,400 races last year to just over 800 this year. The Dundas, Ontario racetrack will offer about 100 race dates, down from 188 last year, and will be dark June, July, August and September. There is no word if the track’s signature event, the Confederation Cup, which is usually conducted in August, will be a part of the agenda.
Fifty-nine soph-pacing colts, including the dynamic Captaintreacherous, have been nominated to the 30th edition of the Pepsi North America Cup, Canada’s richest harness race. The purse in 2013 will be $1 million, down from $1.5 million when on the program at Mohawk on June 15. The eliminations, worth $50,000 each, are set for Saturday, June 8. Some other names you may recall from their frosh campaigns that are on the nomination list include Apprentice Hanover, Duel In The Sun, Johny Rock, Mach Pride, Odds On Equuleus, Rockin Amadeus and Twilight Bonfire.
Trainer Jim Mulinix tells reporters he is looking forward to a more relaxed year with A Rocknroll Dance, who was one of the top three-year-old colt pacers in 2012. Last year, A Rocknroll Dance ranked fourth in earnings in his division and won the Meadowlands Pace (as predicted in this blog), Battle of the Brandywine and Max Hempt Memorial. He won seven of 11 at two, including a victory in the Governor’s Cup and a second in the Breeders Crown.
However, his racing success stalled and he was winless in his final 11 starts following his victory in the Battle of the Brandywine at Harrah’s Philadelphia in mid-August.
“You can always look back and find something you could do differently,” Mulinex said, “but at the time you’re doing the best you know how to do. If I had to do over again, I’d have trained him a little stiffer and shod him a little sharper … There was pressure on him last year … This year there is not as much pressure.” Mulinex said the four-year-old is training well and should qualify in three weeks to be ready for the Meadowlands Maturity on May 18 at the Meadowlands.
A Rocknroll Dance will have his work cut out for him as an older pacer, since many of the top older pacers returning to action this season include many of the top 15 money-winning three-year-old male pacers of 2012.
