Dame Dorothy denies champion Judy the Beauty in Humana Distaff, Race 7, on 2015 Kentucky Derby Day

Dame Dorothy battled with champion Judy the Beauty and pacesetter Moonlit Stroll throughout the stretch of Saturday’s Humana Distaff (G1) on the 2015 Kentucky Derby undercard, and just got her head down on the wire to score over the Eclipse Award winner.

Sent off the 5-2 second choice to Judy the Beauty’s even-money favoritism, Dame Dorothy settled just off the pace under jockey Javier Castellano as Moonlit Stroll set a reasonable pace up front while tracked by Judy the Beauty to her outside.

Dame Dorothy moved up to challenge rounding the turn, and the trio fought it out in the lane. The Todd Pletcher trainee just eked out the win to pay $7.20 while finishing seven furlongs on the fast main track in 1:22 3/5.

Campaigned by celebrity chef Bobby Flay, Dame Dorothy earned her fourth stakes victory and is now 8-6-1-1 lifetime.
