Del Mar Week 3 highlights
In last weekend’s Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” races at Del Mar, Dr. Schivel and Shedaresthedevil secured berths in the championship series.
This week, more of racing’s top stars will visit the seaside oval. Here’s a look at the action at Del Mar.
Dr. Schivel aces Bing Crosby S. (G1)
In his fourth consecutive win and his second Grade 1 victory, Dr. Schivel took the lead midstretch and hung on to capture the Bing Crosby S. (G1) by a neck, over Eight Rings.
In his sixth start, the three-year-old took on older rivals, including multiple-graded stakes winners C Z Rocket and Whitmore, who earned the Eclipse Award for champion male sprinter.

The six-furlong Crosby earned Dr. Schivel a spot in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1), which will be held at Del Mar in November.
Flavien Prat, who leads the Del Mar jockey standings, rode the bay colt for trainer Mark Glatt. The pair also won the race last year, with Collusion Illusion.
“This is a real racehorse,” Glatt said. “He beat the olders today, and hopefully in November, he’ll be able to do it again.”
Shedaresthedevil brings the heat in Clement L. Hirsch S. (G1)
Shedaresthedevil confirmed she is an elite competitor in her division when she easily put away her rivals in the Clement L. Hirsch S. (G1).
The winner of the 2020 Kentucky Oaks traveled west to face a talented field, which included multiple graded stakes winners Venetian Harbor and As Time Goes By, and earned her third Grade 1 win and a place in the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).

Regular rider Florent Geroux was in the irons for Brad Cox, the Eclipse Award-winning trainer of 2020.
“I’d have to say she’s up there with the best mares I’ve ever ridden,” Geroux said. “And the fact that she showed she can run well on the track where the Breeders’ Cup will be held — that’s a good thing, too.”
Upcoming Del Mar stakes
On Friday, two-year-old fillies will go six furlongs in the Sorrento S. (G2). Freshman sprints continue Saturday, with the Best Pal S. (G2), and the Yellow Ribbon H. (G2) for fillies and mares three-years-old and older will share the card. Weekend stakes action concludes Sunday, with the La Jolla S. (G3) for three-year-olds on turf.
