Delta Prince well fancied in Artie Schiller Stakes

Delta Prince gets a good chance to win his first stakes race when he takes on a good field in the one-mile Artie Schiller Stakes on the Aqueduct turf Nov. 18.
Delta Prince hasn’t run much in 2017, but he’s looked good when he did. After an allowance victory at Gulfstream Park in February, he finished second behind All Included in the Appleton Stakes (G3) on the same track April 1.
He returned for an allowance victory at Saratoga Aug. 5, and a month later finished third behind Heart to Heart and Forge in the Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2).
The leading candidate to deny him is the aptly-named French import Blacktype. Since his arrival in the United States in 2014 he’s won two graded stakes races, the most recent just last month in the Knickerbocker Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park. Last year’s runner-up in this race, Blacktype gives away weight to all his opponents but has the ability to go close.
Another multiple graded stakes winner in the field is the Chad Brown-trained Night Prowler, though both of his graded victories came in 2015. He’s been kept mainly to allowance racing this year but did finish third in the Poker Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park in June. He also finished third in this race last year.
Night Prowler’s stablemate A Lot has raced just once this year, for a sixth-place finish in a Belmont Park allowance last month, but last year he finished second in the Fourstardave Handicap (G1) and fourth in the Jaipur Invitational Stakes (G3), form which is good enough to be competitive here.
Fire Away should be competitive after a string of good allowance performances this year, while Hollywood Hideaway is worth a thought in his first race away from Woodbine.
