‘Distance doesn’t seem to matter’ to Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia

Kentucky Oaks (G1) heroine Cathryn Sophia breezed five furlongs Wednesday ahead of an expected start in the $700,000 Acorn (G1) going a mile at Belmont Park on June 11.

The bay daughter of Street Boss recorded her five-eighths move in :58.40 over Monmouth Park’s fast main track, the best of nine other works at that distance on the day.

Trainer John Servis said Cathryn Sophia is expected to arrive at Belmont Park on Friday morning and will not breeze again before the Acorn.

"Everything's great," Servis stated. "She's just a good horse."

Cathryn Sophia is 5-0-1 in her six starts, including four consecutive wins to start her career. After finishing third by just a half-length in her Grade 1 debut in the Ashland, the Maryland-bred lass scored a 2 3/4-length victory against 13 rivals in the 1 1/8-mile Kentucky Oaks on May 6.

"Distance doesn't seem to matter too much with her, it's looking more and more like that every time," Servis said.

The horseman also said Cathryn Sophia is being pointed to the $2 million Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) in November, which is set at 1 1/8 miles the Santa Anita Park's main track.

Go Maggie Go, who finished fourth in the Kentucky Oaks prior to taking the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) on Pimlico the day before the Preakness S. (G1), is also expected for the Acorn.
