Dover Downs hosts intriguing Thursday card

December 17th, 2019

Temperatures may be expected to plummet this week, but those venturing the Dover Downs will have a chance to pad their Christmas shopping bankrolls on Thursday through a number of intriguing events for pacers.

Two horses that have proven dominant at times on their respective circuits will seek to continue their success on Thursday evening at Dover. Romantic Interest (Frank Milby) the top overnight pacer at Rosecroft Raceway this past fall where he won the Maryland Open four times during the fall meet, will look to take his talents on the road to Dover on Thursday. Typically the Rosecroft horses are battling a class hike at Dover, but Rock N Roll Jet scored at a big price last season after dominating the locals in Maryland and Romantic Interest could deliver a similar performance.

Then several races later in the $27,500 Blue Hen Open, Slick Tony, who handed Romantic Interest two rare setback st Rosecroft after dominating the Open ranks at Harrington, will seek to rebound from his third-place finish as the odds-on favorite one week ago. Slick Tony, who contested the $150,000 Bobby Quillen Memorial at Harrington and the $100,000 Potomac Pace at Rosecroft, was hindered by a prolonged first over journey last week and was assigned the eight hole this week while seeking to atone, potentially at a decent price.

Two pacers with ample back class will look to regain their winning ways on the Thursday card as well. Wiggle It Jiggleit, the 2015 harness horse of the year who is in the midst of a comeback following a three-year hiatus, is seeking to atone for a dull outing last week for trainer George Teague, Jr. Also on the card, Wakizashi Hanover, coincidentally best known for upending Wiggle It in the 2015 North America Cup, is also in the midst of a return following a six-month vacation for trainer Jim King, Jr. of Shartin N fame.
