Meydan Race 6 Wagers
Jessica Harrington’s five-year-old hasn’t won since the Prix de la Nonette (G2) at Deauville in August 2022. However, her seven starts since that day have included five at Group 1 level and two at Group 2, and in most she didn’t disgrace herself.
She returned to Deauville three starts back to finish fourth in the Prix Jean Romanet (G1), sticking on well after being headed. Then she missed the start before finishing third in the Blandford (G2) at The Curragh before heading to Cologne for a second-place finish in the Preis von Europa (G1).
Trevaunance should appreciate a return to Group 3 company at Meydan. Regular rider Shane Foley takes the mount on the daughter of Muhaarar.
Godolphin’s Charlie Appleby has two runners, each with prospects. Leading stable jockey William Buick has chosen to ride #3 New London, who looked a good prospect at three when winning the 2022 Gordon Stakes (G3) and finishing third, promoted to second, in the St. Leger (G1).
After requiring wind surgery at the end of his three-year-old campaign, New London couldn’t get to the winner’s circle in three 2023 starts, though he was just a head away from Tregony in the Dubai Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket in September. He hasn’t raced at 1 1/4 miles since his three-year-old days, but he shouldn’t be underestimated.
Stablemate #5 Warren Point had a mixed 2023, winning a stakes race in Bahrain and finishing second in the rich Amir Trophy in Qatar before two modest efforts at Belmont Park and a failure at Newmarket. A return to good ground should be in his favor here.
English runners #4 Solid Stone and #1 Sean, along with the locally-trained #2 Erzindjan, look the best of the others.
