Ellis Park: Horses to play in the $9,034 Super High 5 carryover
The final five races on the Saturday card at Ellis Park went by without anyone solving the $1 Super High 5. That means there’s a quintuple carryover worth $9,034 on the table for Sunday’s card.
The prize pool is available to chase in Race 2, a $30,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mares sprinting six furlongs on dirt. The 11-horse field looks mighty competitive, but after analyzing the entries, we’ve identified four fillies worth building tickets around:
#1 Despo’s Dream (4-1): This daughter of champion sprinter Mitole debuted with a third-place finish in an August 2023 maiden special weight sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs at Ellis Park. She subsequently missed the board in a trio of maiden special weights at Churchill Downs before dropping in class for a $30,000 maiden claimer at Churchill last month, where she rallied to finish second with a career-best 77 Brisnet Speed rating. Returning to Ellis for another $30,000 maiden claimer should place Despo’s Dream in the hunt for victory.

#3 Conquest Dancer (7-2): Two starts sprinting six furlongs against maiden special weight competition at Keeneland and Horseshoe Indianapolis have yielded third-place finishes from Conquest Dancer. Descending into a $30,000 maiden claimer ought to place this three-year-old filly in contention for another top-three finish.
#6 Coldasice (15-1): First-time starter Coldasice is trained by Ron Moquett, who has compiled a respectable 11-2-3-1 (18% wins, 55% in-the-money) record at Ellis Park this meet. Since 2019. Moquett has gone 2-for-9 (22%) debuting horses at Ellis, which is another positive in Coldasice’s favor. She’s put together a solid work tab capped off by five furlongs from the Ellis starting gate in 1:00 4/5, and jockey Declan Cannon (2-for-2 teaming up with Moquett over the last two months) is named to ride, so don’t count Coldasice out of win consideration.
#11 Patty Van Twinkle (3-1): Although Patty Van Twinkle finished 3 3/4 lengths behind Despo’s Dream when fourth in a $30,000 maiden claimer last month, two starts back she ended a 17-month layoff with a nice runner-up finish in a $20,000 maiden claimer sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs at Churchill Downs. That effort yielded an 87 Brisnet Speed rating, by far the highest number belonging to any horse in Sunday’s field, so Patty Van Twinkle’s best effort can put her in contention under hot jockey Martin Garcia, a 28% winner at Ellis this meet.
By emphasizing these four fillies in the Super High 5, we should have every chance to assemble a winning ticket. Good luck!
