Evangeline Downs Pick 5 for July 9

An interesting sequence on Saturday that includes what appears to be a wide open, paceless affair in Race 6. Good to use all the live prices you can in that leg. Also, the last race features a couple longshots that will absolutely be overlays. I’ll be taking my stand in Race 7, though it is a competitive field. It’s a situation where I feel if I take more than one here, I’d end up being able to make a case for most.

Race 4 Allowance

A: I’ll play the follow-the-jockey game and lean heavily on #6 Sniveling (2-1). Dominguez wins 22% of his turf mounts and Sniveling has the form and the figures that can’t be ignored. But he is a deep closer, always find difficult to single on a turf course like Evangeline's, so will use a few Bs as well.

B: #3 Trivista (6-1) has been looking to get on the turf for some time. This Into Mischief colt has the talent. #4 One Time Gem (5-2) looks to be the frontrunner in here. Whether on the lead or right off it, should get a nice set-up for reserving energy to finish the race off late.

Race 5 Allowance

A: #3 Highhopes Diamond (10-1) didn’t beat much in maiden score but that was the first race he ran to win. Dangerous in here. #4 My Man Louie (15-1) has the best early speed and should be able to get it done against these coming out in first run for Broberg. #7 Drewmazing (8-1) looked good pressing the front last time, a new style with the arrival of Stokes. Another live price horse in here.

Race 6 Claiming

A: #4 Suffragatte (9-5) looked good at this distance winning two back. Tried tougher last out and now drops back to a level that fits. #5 Aphrodite’s Revenge (5-2) ran well through the wire last out and now gets extra distance. #7 My Rebel Girl (5-1) exits her career best speed figure and has won at this tricky seven-furlong distance.

B: #2 Allstar Magic (6-1) a winner last out who could be aggressive here and go for the lead. #6 Missgreeleys’song (15-1) is another who can get the lead and prove dangerous against this paceless bunch.

Race 7 Allowance

A: Give me #7 Creole Charlie (5-2) or give me death. Best speed, top figures. Single.

Race 8 Maiden Claiming

A: #1 RT’s Iron Man (5-2) should appreciate the drop down from special weight company.  #7 Fighting Soldier (20-1) woke up on the turf running near the front early. Bullet workout between starts. Live longshot.

B: #2 Custom Blue Grass (2-1) won two back but was disqualified, had a tough trip last out, and should run well against these today. #5 Cabochon Treasure (3-1) should improve off game first try. #6 Hera Breezin (5-1) is a first-time starter from Yellow Meadow who is producing precocious runners.
