Exotics Plays for the 2024 Dania Beach Stakes

January 3rd, 2024

A total of 10 talented sophomores will travel one mile on the Gulfstream Park lawn in Saturday’s $125,000 Dania Beach S. The well-matched cast features numerous contenders that are worth an investment in my opinion, and I will spread my wagers around with a few of my leading selections.

Dania Beach Exotics Wagers

#2 Typhoon Fury is intriguing while making his second route run on the lawn for trainer George Weaver. By top young sire Mitole, the gelding broke his maiden sprinting on the Aqueduct lawn two back and was last seen finishing a good third in the Central Park S. at 1 1/16 miles at the same venue last time out. The dark bay Kentucky bred settled nicely in that contest before rallying late, but I envision jockey Luis Saez having him more involved in the early action in this one from a good post to do so.

Godolphin homebred #7 Palm Tree missed by a neck when closing for third in the Pulpit S. in his most recent performance and will be tough to keep out of the top three with even slight improvement in his second local appearance. The Brendan Walsh trainee has not endured the best of trips in two straight, but the talent is obviously there, and the Street Boss sophomore might just need a bit of luck to get it done against this fine field. Jose Ortiz will be in the silks.

Todd Pletcher’s #10 Agate Road fell just 2 1/2 lengths shy when fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) to conclude his juvenile campaign and seems poised to have a productive 2024. The expensive Quality Road colt has improved a good measure in each of his lifetime tries on the sod to date, and the powerful late runner has been training well leading up to this endeavor, as well. The outside post is something of a concern for the Kentucky bred, but it’s difficult to leave him off of my tickets, nonetheless. Regular pilot Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be in the silks.
