Exotics plays for the Wright Memorial Stakes on Nov. 27
Eight horses will travel about 1 1/16 miles on the Fair Grounds lawn in Saturday’s $75,000 Bob F. Wright Memorial S. The well-matched field has various legitimate contenders signed on for the event, and I like one at a very good morning-line price.
#6 Forty Under (8-1) is the value horse, in my opinion, and I'll be keying him in the first and second slots as my wagering strategy. One of three in the cast for conditioner Mike Maker, the Uncle Mo gelding has been inconsistent to this stage of his development, but I really liked his first two races since joining this shedrow, and the gray is still lightly-raced enough to improve. The Kentucky-bred has very good tactical speed in a field full of closing types and figures to receive a nice trip from the break under Murrill.
Godolphin homebred #1 Pixelate (2-1) is a stakes victor on the surface and a must-use in the top three from the rail. Michael Stidham pupil missed by 3 3/4 lengths in the Grade 1 ranks in his most recent performance, and the four-year-old son of City Zip will be tough to deny late with his top showing. Angel Suarez gets the call.
Course specialist #3 Logical Myth (7-2) sports an excellent 8-5-1-1 mark at Fair Grounds for trainer Joe Sharp. The Data Link gelding was an emphatic winner of the Colonel E.R. Bradley S. here in January, and something resembling that run will make the five-year-old a major player late with Parker in the silks.
Maker’s #7 Big Agenda (6-1) has won three of six since being claimed by this outfit and was a stakes runner-up in his lone prior endeavor at Fair Grounds. The dark bay six-year-old has finished in the top two in nine of his 11 lifetime tries at the distance, and a top-three finish would come as no surprise to me with James Graham signed on for the voyage.
