Fair Grounds: How to bet the $10,775 Pick 6 carryover

December 23rd, 2023

Saturday’s action-packed card at Fair Grounds features an all-stakes Pick 6 with a non-jackpot carryover worth $10,775.

Let’s examine the sequence for the $1 wager in race-by-race fashion, then assemble a ticket for under $75:

Race 7: Letellier Memorial S. (six furlongs)

#3 Halina’s Forte (2-1) trounced a couple of next-out winners in her debut, then finished second in the Fern Creek S. behind three-time stakes winner Youalmosthadme. But #6 Brunch Punch (9-2) ran slightly faster then Halina’s Forte on the Brisnet Speed rating scale when winning a maiden special weight at Fair Grounds last month. We’ll use these two juvenile fillies in equal strength.

Race 8: Richard R. Scherer Memorial S. (about 5 1/2 furlongs on turf)

We’ll take a stand here and single #6 Private Creed (3-1). Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) third-place finisher lost his first five starts of 2023, but rounded back to peak form with a win in the Franklin Simpson (G2) and followed up with a decisive Churchill Downs allowance score. He looks ready to post a third straight win.

Race 9: Untapable S. (one mile and 70 yards)

#1 Alpine Princess (3-1) misfired when seventh in the Alcibiades (G1), but sandwiched that defeat between a Saratoga maiden victory and a Churchill Downs allowance victory. She’s a logical win threat, though debut winners #2 Band of Gold (8-1) and #5 Legadema (3-1) have upside as well.

Race 10: Buddy Diliberto Memorial S. (1 1/16 miles on turf)

#12 Two Emmys (3-1) boasts a strong 11-4-4-1 record competing over the Fair Grounds turf and was last seen wiring the Fair Grounds (G3) over this course by 4 1/4 lengths. But that was back in February, so if Two Emmys is rusty off the layoff, longshots like #2 Fair Dinkum (12-1), #4 Johny’s Fireball (12-1), and #7 Street Ready (10-1) have upset potential.

Race 11: Tenacious S. (1 1/16 miles)

Ack Ack (G3) runner-up #4 Stage Raider (5-1) is good enough to win this on his best day, but he’s not the most consistent runner and we can’t rely on him too heavily. The same goes for defending Tenacious winner #5 Happy American (4-1), which is why we’ll also include the improving Keeneland allowance winner #8 Brigadier General (6-1) on our ticket.

Race 12: Gun Runner S. (1 1/16 miles)

#6 Nash (7-5) ran out of his skin when dominating a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight at Churchill Downs by 10 1/4 lengths, earning a 97 Brisnet Speed rating that tops the Gun Runner field. We’ll single this promising two-year-old to conclude the Pick 6.

  • $1 Pick 6: 3,6 with 6 with 1,2,5 with 2,4,7,12 with 4,5,8 with 6 ($72)

Good luck!
