Fair Grounds: How to bet the Joseph R. Peluso Memorial Nov. 25

November 25th, 2021

A well-matched field of 11 will go postward in the $75,000 Joseph R. Peluso S. at Fair Grounds on Thanksgiving Day. One of two stakes races on the slate, the 1 1/16-mile turf test appears to be a fine betting race with numerous legitimate contenders in the cast.

I am most intrigued with horses breaking from the outer posts in the contest and will center my wagers around the quartet.

My top pick is #11 Catch A Bid (10-1) for Joe Sharp. The daughter of Real Solution has been a bit uneven in recent races, but when she is right the mare can be very good. The five-year-old has sprinted on the green in five of her last six outings and stretches back out in this spot, which I believe is a wise move. She has two wins at the distance and could get a solid pace to rally into late at a nice number.

#9 Dominga (7-2) shows a 4-2-2-0 local line and rates an obvious chance for conditioner Brad Cox. The Ghostzapper four-year-old has excellent positional speed, and she earned a lifetime best Brisnet Speed figure in her most recent performance at Fair Grounds. Colby Hernandez will be in the stirrups atop the morning-line choice.

#8 Breeze Rider (6-1) dons a superb 5-4-0-1 at the trip and could be the one to run down turning for home under E.T. Baird. The Steve Manley trainee has very good current form and shows a pair of bullet morning moves in advance of Thursday as well. The speedy four-year-old could shine in her local debut.

The Karl Broberg-trained #10 Island Hideaway (10-1) makes her third start of the season and could peak in this affair at a square price. The consistent four-year-old was a close fourth in the 2020 Pago Hop S. on the course in December against arguably a tougher field, and she was a facile allowance heroine at Remington Park last time out. The bay will stalk the proceedings to the top of the lane with Reylu Gutierrez in the silks.
