Fair Grounds Jockey Standings: Miguel Mena Leads Top 5
One of BetAmerica's featured tracks is the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, L.A. One of my favorite race-callers, John Dooley, calls races at the Fair Grounds. Some of the top jockeys and trainers also ride and saddle horses at the Fair Grounds.
Check out the current Top 5 jockeys at the Big Easy racetrack. Most of the names should be familiar to horseplayers. The fifth on the list might not be. All stats are as of 12/30/2017. Check it out!
1. Miguel Mena - 2015 Louisiana Derby, 1st - International Star
Anybody who's followed racing at the Fair Grounds in the past knows Miguel Mena. Since 2005, Miguel's mounts haven't combined for less than $1.5 million. Miguel's best year was 2012 where his mounts secured over $6.26 million.
Mena rode International Star to a win in the 2015 Louisiana Derby. So far this Fair Grounds Meet, Mena's got 24 first places, 19 second places, and 14 third places from 134 mounts.
3. Shaun Bridgmohan - 2009 Vosburgh Stakes, 1st - Kodiak Kowboy
Bridgmohan is one of the more famous jockeys in the United States. The 1998 Eclipse winner for top apprentice jockey, Shaun has ridden 16 graded winners. He's ridden 7 Grade 1 winners: Student Council, who won the Pimlico Special, Room Service, who won the American Oaks, Noble Bird won the Stephen Foster under Bridgmohan, Giant Oak won the Clark, Peeping Tom won the Carter, and Evening Attire won the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
Kodiak Cowboy, listed here, won the Grade 1 Cigar Mile in 2009. 4 days ago, Shaun was in 4th place on this list. He's climbed all the way to 2nd. Bridgmohan's won 22 races from only 78 starts. That's an awesome 28% win percentage.
2. Mitchell Murrill - 2017 Miss Preakness Stakes, 3rd - My Miss Chiff
Murrill's come a long way since 2013. That year, he rode 6 horses. The best finish from all 6 horses was a third. A year later Murrill's mounts earned $787,393. In 2015, a year after that, his mounts earned over $2.56 million. A year later, Mitchell Murrill rode 1,014 horses. They earned a combined $3,591,220.
Murrill's having a fantastic Fair Grounds Meet. He's got 20 first places, 19 second places, and 24 third places from 148 mounts. Murrill's horses have already earned $586,470 at the Fair Grounds.
4. Colby Hernandez - 2016 Risen Star Stakes, 2nd - Forevamo
Colby Hernandez's career started in 2006. Hernandez's best stretch as a jockey was in 2014 through 2015. In 2014, he rode 1,111 horses. Those horses earned over $4.26 million. In 2015, Hernandez rode 1,166 horses. Those mounts earned over $5.64 million.
Hernandez almost produced a huge upset win in the 2016 Risen Star Stakes aboard Forevamo. Forevamo went off at $40.60 to 1 to win that day. Who beat Forevamo? 2017's top racehorse, Gun Runner.

This is Adam Beschizza's first Fair Grounds Meet. Beschizza's first mount was at Newmarket in 2010. Due to a connection with Joe Sharp, Beschizza made a mark early at the current Fair Grounds Meet. In addition to riding for Sharp, Beschizza has picked up mounts for Mark Casse, who'se got a stable at the Fair Grounds.
Beschizza's only ridden 73 horses as of Dec. 31, 2017. He's won 16 races. He's finished second 12 times. He's finished third 13 times. Beschizza's mounts have earned $338,560.
