Fast Draw Munnings is the King Glorious Stakes value play

A total of nine juveniles will travel one mile in Sunday’s $100,000 King Glorious S. at Los Alamitos. Impressive maiden winner #4 Straight Up G (2-1) has been installed as the morning-line choice off the strength of his sharp sprint tally at Del Mar last time out. By Straight Fire, the Jungle Racing homebred drew off like a good one in his second career out and came back to drill a bullet five furlongs in the interim. The California-bred appears to have a very bright future for conditioner Richard Baltas, but I will aim to knock him off on Sunday.

#2 Fast Draw Munnings (6-1) has been sharp in both lifetime engagements to date and gets top billing for trainer Jeff Mullins. The bay graduated on this surface on debut, which preceded a solid third-place result in the Golden State Juvenile S. at Del Mar when he was more than six lengths clear of his nearest foe after attending the pace throughout.

By Munnings, the April foal showed progression on the move from 5 1/2 furlong to seven-eighths, and I feel that negotiating another furlong will be right in his wheelhouse. Fast Draw Munnings can be equally effective when forcing the pace or rating off it, giving regular pilot Drayden Van Dyke options going into the first turn of the race.

The wildcard in the field is Eddie Freeman’s #6 So I’m Told (8-1). The chestnut son of Square Eddie put in a strong late kick on the lawn at first asking to reel in a clear one late, and if he can transform that turn of foot on the dirt, then the gelding could be very dangerous at a square price.

#9 Socal Red (8-1) rallied to be fourth at 88-1 odds in the Golden State Juvenile in his first try with blinkers on, and another step forward with the stretch-out in distance could find this one lurking for a placing inside the final furlong at a nice number.
