Fillies and mares on display in Breeders Crown finals on Friday
This coming Friday evening will truly be ladies night at Hoosier Park in Indiana as the seven-eighths mile oval hosts six Breeders Crown finals for fillies and mares of both gaits and all ages. Five of the six Breeders Crown finals will go a long way toward determining their respective division champion this season.
Friday's seventh race is the $250,000 Breeders Crown Open Mare Trot final and the compact field of four features a genuine standout who is not in serious contention for division honors. Emoticon Hanover (Daniel Dube) sports a 4-3-3 slate and $250,000 bankroll from 11 starts this year for trainer Luc Blais and brings a three-race win streak. But Emoticon Hanover has little chance of overtaking Hannelore Hanover, who is facing the boys again on Saturday night, for year-end honors among aged trotting mares.
Then one race later in the $600,000 Breeders Crown Final for two-year-old filly trotters, Manchego (Yannick Gingras) will put her unblemished record on the line when she faces Pheatosive (Trond Smedshammer). Manchego has won all 11 of her career starts and earned roughly $575,000 and she almost assuredly will take home divisional honors unless Phaetosive, who sports four wins and two second-place finishes from six starts and was slightly faster in the elims last weekend, absolutely dominates this race.
Then one race later in the $500,000 Breeders Crown Final for three-year-old pacing fillies, seven of the 10 starters have a solid chance for success and the winner will garner immediate consideration for divisional honors. Blazin Britches (Trace Tetrick), Caviart Ally (Andy Miller), Ella Christian (Tim Tetrick), Agent Q (David Miller), Idyllic Beach (Gingras), Tequila Monday (Brett Miller) and Obvious Blue Chip (Scott Zeron) bring a combined sum of 50 wins and $2.5 million banked this season and any of them could prevail in this wide open affair.
Then one race later in the $500,000 Breeders Crown Final for three-year-old filly trotters, much of the focus will be on Ariana G (Gingras), who has already secured divisional honors and is among the short list of contenders for trotter of the year and horse of the year for Takter. Ariana G has won 11 of 14 starts and earned $875,000 this year and looms the 1-5 favorite against Dream Together (Dube), Overdraft Volo (Andy Miller), That's All Moni (Tim Tetrick) and Ice Attraction (Ake Svandstedt). Ariana G has earned more this year than that quartet has combined.
