Filly Trotters And Pacers Highlighted From Lucrative Freshman Affairs At Red Mile And Meadows Programs

We launch the BCC with races from the largest divisions, the two-year-olds. If you have been following the main blog’s “Freshman Frolics” you know we have been on top of the rising stars as well as the critics’ choices.

Kentucky Sires Stakes (KYSS) for frosh trotters on Thursday, Aug. 16, puts some fine fillies with Crown-eligible papers on display at The Red Mile in $30,000 splits.

The first filly split hosts French Café (e), the most experienced and popular thus far among the nine involved. Also, this is the debut for Jimmy Takter’s Can’t Touch It, a Cantab Hall product with rich blood and high expectations.

In only her second start, the single Muscle Hill filly in the group is Lindy Pearl (e). She will be dismissed due to post, mostly, but needs respect as an unproven entity from a top stallion.

Five of the nine in the second KYSS filly split are eligible and again, Takter’s filly, Asiago (e) gets top focus. It’s her second start but the name brand brings bucks to the windows. She will have to deal with Dark As A Pocket (e), who has won two of four already and with Nomo Volo (e), who has also won twice.

In the win pool, our contender will fall behind those mentioned. We like the Kadabra daughter, Mercedes Talma (e). Kadabra has been so productive with young fillies and Nifty Norman, who has also done well with product in the division, handles this one. A good price is guaranteed.

The third of the KYSS filly splits also contains a Takter student raring to take money—Whispering Oaks (e). A Noel Daley-trained filly, Ma Was Right (e) will also attract some dollars.

Takter’s filly is by Father Patrick, who also sired a filly here that deserves attention. That is Devilish Delight (e). Jonas Czernyson never gets enough credit, especially early on in divisions such as this. There is no reason to feel this gal is not a contender and she certainly will offer some good win money, as well as she will be valuable in the exotics.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, a trio of frosh-filly pacing Pennsylvania Sires Stakes (PASS) with purses worth $60,000-plus each are the top events at the Meadows.

Only six are racing in the first PASS split, highlighted by unbeaten filly Warrawee Ubeaut (e). The wins, the short field and the services of Ron Burke should give this one lots of betting action. The obvious second choices, however, will not be far behind. Rockn Philly has been productive, as has Treacherous Reign.

An outsider with a shot, Sweet Lucy Lou (e) has not scored in her first five races but is bred as well as “Warrawee” and may show up with strong footing this time.

Next, six more youngsters hit the five-eighths track in a tough and tight competition. Burke’s Sylph Hanover (e) will get attention and hopefully more than she deserves so we may prosper with an outsider, Odds On Naples (e). Ross Croghan handles this Captaintreacherous filly that is sitting on a win to keep up the fine record of the great pacer’s first crop.

Two standouts race in the third PASS in a field of seven. Bestseller Hanover (e) and She’s Allright (e) deserve to split the betting bill with lots of early success. To defy them, you could back Stonebridge Soul, who could upset even with no path to the Crown (remember, two-year-olds cannot supplement to a Crown event). She could be better than measured publicly and has a good chance to show it here.
