Best Bets and Quick Picks
Oaklawn Park: Race 7: $125,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (one mile on dirt, 4:18 p.m. ET)
#4 Calling Card (2-1) obliterated his dirt debut in a one-mile maiden special weight at Aqueduct last month, rallying to win by 17 1/4 lengths in the strong time of 1:36.36. That runaway win yielded a 93 Brisnet Speed rating, the highest number belonging to any horse in Friday’s field.
If Calling Card can repeat that performance while shipping to Oaklawn, he can deliver victory over Street Sense (G3) third-place finisher #2 Sandman (3-1) and Churchill Downs $100,000 maiden claiming winner #3 Instant Replay (5-1).
Selections
- #4 Calling Card (2-1)
- #3 Instant Replay (5-1)
- #2 Sandman (3-1)
Wagers
- $15 Exacta: 4 with 2,3 ($30)
Turfway Park: Race 5: $30,000 Maiden Claiming (1 1/16 miles on Tapeta, 7:55 p.m. ET)
#12 A. P. Grey (15-1) showed little when debuting in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Horseshoe Indianapolis, trailing for most of the journey before passing one horse to finish seventh.
But that contest took place over a sloppy dirt track. Switching to Tapeta, stretching out over 1 1/16 miles, and dropping into a $30,000 maiden claimer may trigger meaningful improvement from A. P. Grey.
Let’s try betting this double-digit longshot to win.
Selections
- #12 A. P. Grey (15-1)
- #2 Sunscents (10-1)
- #1 Generative (5-2)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #12 A. P. Grey
Remington Park: Race 12: Remington Springboard Mile S. (one mile on dirt, 11:26 p.m. ET)
#9 Dr Ruben M (6-1) has squared off against tough competition in Southern California maiden special weights. Last time out, he used his tactical speed to wire a one-mile race at Santa Anita with a sharp 92 Brisnet Speed rating.
None of Dr Ruben M’s Springboard Mile rivals have earned a Brisnet Speed rating higher than 87. If his 6-1 morning line odds hold up, a large win bet is in order. We’ll also play him over Churchill Downs debut winner #3 Speed King (7-2) in the exacta.
Selections
- #9 Dr Ruben M (6-1)
- #3 Speed King (7-2)
- #7 Jolly Samurai (4-1)
Wagers
- $30 to win on #9 Dr Ruben M
- $10 Exacta: 9 with 3
Total: $40
Good luck!
