Glancing At Glamour-Boy Trotters Of 2020

In this TwinSpires harness blog installment, we predict some sophomore trotting
colts that have the talent to challenge obvious headliners from last season’s
freshman champs.
In 2020, as of this writing, there are no commitments for major stakes dates.
When they may be presented is yet to be determined. Meanwhile, we offer
division “sleepers,” eventual champs escaping the majority of pundits. Our
preferences are in descending order.
BEYOND KRONOS
The “expert” handicappers will agree that Beyond Kronos has to improve greatly
to be a top contender against the “obvious two,” Real Cool Sam and Adios Volo,
but to dismiss him may be foolish. Being in the hunt at two with the likes of a
talented crop, Beyond Kronos has every right to get a ton better at three.
In only 11 starts, the Jim Campbell-trained son of Muscle Hill won three races
and was 45-percent in the money. He earned $130,591 for his efforts, a chunky
$11,871 a start. He kept great company in almost a dozen stakes, which may turn
out to be healthy preps for a sophomore season that will include big win
prices, at least until the crowd catches on..
CAPRICORNUS
Marcus Melander’loyalty to the progeny of aging stallion Cantab Hall pays off
continually. This son of the productive sire was not peaking, as were the
obvious two in the division, as he got better in the late season’s stakes. He
will give the obvious two a trot for their money and, early on, for the bettor
cashing on him.
E L IDEAL
The third-best earner of the frosh division, the Muscle Hill 2020 sophomore
will go unnoticed by the experts early but he has the ability to erupt. He
earned more than Real Cool Sam, second only to Amigo Volo, so don’t look away,
especially when the price is right.
HP ROYAL THEO
Early in the 2013 season, in HOOF BEATS, we predicted the crowning of Royalty
For Life as a sophomore, including his Hambletonian victory. His connections
had him breeding shortly after and his blood was rich, too, siring winners of
over $3 million. One of the lot is HP Royal Theo. Trainer Ben Baillargeon
called him a “freak” at two and at three he may freak out the obvious two.
We have a few honorable mentions, which rank above our top-four choices in the
mainstream handicapping community.
MOON BRIDGE
Ake Svanstedt’s contribution to the division must be counted as a contender
more than a champion but the son of E L Titan should assist in many an exotic
bet
READY FOR MONI
A stealthy stalker, the Ready Cash sophomore trained by Per Engblom will be
haunting some speed in major events after a late-season splurge proved he could
be in the division’s top tier.
