Golden Gate: How to bet the $5,320 Super High 5 carryover
Do you think you can select the top five finishers in Sunday’s first race at Golden Gate Fields? If you can, you’ll win a share of a $5,320 Super High 5 carryover.
Race 1 is an $8,000 maiden claimer for three-year-old fillies. The five-furlong Tapeta sprint has drawn seven entries, so there are only 2,520 possible Super High 5 outcomes to consider.
The morning line favorite is #7 Capo Sorella (9-5), and for obvious reasons. After competing without much success against tougher competition on dirt and turf, she made her Tapeta debut in a 5 1/2-furlong $8,000 claimer on Jan. 15 at Golden Gate Fields. In that contest, Capo Sorella dueled for the lead from start to finish and actually crossed the wire first by a head, only to be disqualified to fifth place for drifting out and interfering with a rival.

It’s tempting to play Capo Sorella on top since she’s already “won” a race over this class level, but it’s worth noting her Jan. 15 effort yielded a 67 Brisnet Speed rating, lower than the 71 that #5 Silver Maty (2-1) posted in an identical 5 1/2-furlong $8,000 maiden claimer at Golden Gate on the same afternoon.
Whereas Capo Sorella’s final time was 1:05.93, Silver Maty was beaten half a length when second in a contest that elapsed in a quicker 1:05.49. Silver Maty managed to record the faster final time even though the fractions she set in her $8,000 maiden claimer (:22.56 and :46.26) were slower than the splits of :21.98 and :45.75 from Capo Sorella’s race.
One could argue that Capo Sorella’s superior early speed will burn out Silver Maty when they meet on Sunday, but on Jan. 1 Silver Maty tracked and dueled through splits of :21.97 and :46.03 in a $12,500 maiden claimer at Golden Gate before fighting on to finish second by three-quarters of a length. We’re willing to bet Silver Maty has the right combination of early speed and finishing power to edge Capo Sorella in the drive to the wire.
We’ll bet the Super High 5 accordingly, keying Silver Maty over Capo Sorella before spreading deeper underneath:
- $1 Super High 5: 5 with 7 with 3,4,6 with 1,2,3,4,6 with 1,2,3,4,6 ($36)
Good luck!
