Greyhound Preview - SOUTHLAND 10/4/14

October 4th, 2014

by MoneyMaker Mike

Race 2 - Grade D - 583 yard course -  A very competitive field here and I'm going with the (3) KL's Harvey as the key in this one. In his young career of three races, he has already gotten a win, a second and a third to show for it, along with two schooling race wins. He has both a good rush to the turn as well as closing ability so I'm going with him to get the job done here. I believe his biggest challenge will come from the (2) Deco Fantom Jet who is coming off a nice win last time out and will be going paw to paw with KL's Harvey right from the start. These two should battle for the win and I will include the (6) Slatex Gaston who has been running hard as evidenced by the eight top four finishes he has in just ten races. A very consistent runner to this point, he also shows a strong early effort and shouldn't be overlooked here. To complete the tri and superfecta plays, I'll use the (7) Bob's Captain who has the class and could surprise the field if there is early trouble among the frontrunners.

Pick 3-2-6-7

Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yard course - I'm going with the (7) Slatex Calypso to get the win. She is coming off a nice 13 length win in a schooling race and followed that up with a strong second place finish in her first official contest. She is posted well for her mid to wide running style and may have the lead going into the first turn and can hold it from there. The (6) PG Leaping Lukas has tons of early speed but has shown a tendency to fade down the stretch. I think she can get a big enough lead to hang on for the tri and superfecta plays and therefore will include her in them. The (4) SE's After Dark has shown potential and does have a nice rush to the turn and if the (3) Zacardi Jo can get a clean break and get around the turn without having trouble, she's capable of closing the leaders so I'm including her on the ticket.

Pick 7-6-4-3

Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - The pick is the (1) RC Abovetherest who is going for his third straight win and fourth win in his last five races. A rail runner who gives 110% each time out, he should be out fast and the one to beat here. The (2) KB's Rocket City is also a rail runner whose strong rush should put him close by at the turn and in good position to have a solid finish. Another big challenge should come from the (6) Kiowa Dandelions who has shown tons of potential in his first 14 races by having 12 top four finishes which includes six wins. Good early speed as well as closing ability will make this young greyhound a threat each time out. Finishing the play, I'll include the (4) L's Nipco who has a win and two second place efforts in his last five races.

Pick 1-2-6-4

The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 13th race, a Grade C contest over the 703 yard course and the pick is the (7) PG Smokin Sadia. She is a double drop in class and likes it wide. With her early speed she should be the leader out of the box and is worth giving a shot here.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
