Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/10/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Welcome everyone to another evening of exciting greyhound racing at Southland. This card is going to feature some of the best greyhounds at the track and with that being the case, I have focused my attention tonight on A/AA grade races. It's always entertaining to see the greyhounds show their stuff but with such talent as we have running tonight, it's really a pleasure to enjoy. Thanks for reading and good luck to all.
Race 7 - Here is a grade AA contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (1) U Too Pure Silk. As you may know, he was a member of the 2013 All-American team and has shown the ability to win from any box and has accumulated five wins in ten races from the one box in his career. The (4) Turbo Ted will be trying to get out early and vie for the lead, I will overlook his last couple of races where he encounted early trouble as I believe he gets around the turn in good shape here. Look for a good rush also by the (2) CJB Kit Kat and one of these two greyhounds could be the surprise of the race if U Too Pure Silk happens to have any trouble. Finishing the ticket, I will use the (8) Eureka Episode.
Picks: 1 - 4 - 2 - 8
Race 11 - This is a grade A race over the 583 course and the mighty talented (1) Flying Titanium is the pick here. When you look at his young racing career in which he has won 18 times in 26 races, which is extremely impressive in itself, when you realize this outstanding greyhound has only drawn the one box one time (a race he won by the way), it's even more astounding. Having said that, the (3) Atascocita Gray will put on a show of his own as he has twenty one wins in forty four races himself. These two should go paw to paw in what should be one heck of a race. I do like the hard running (5) CBJ Butterfinger and the (8) Flying Static to be in the hunt for tri and superfecta plays.
Picks: 1 - 3 - 5 - 8
Race 17 - Sticking with the theme of the night, here is grade SAA contest over the super marathon course of 820 yards. The pick in this race is the (6) Flying Smokey who should be out fast and vying for the lead when the lid comes up. Early speed should help him clear but if not, I will also use the quick breaking (5) KL's Pete who will be challenging for the early lead as well. I can't overlook either the (3) L's Morgan or the (1) Flying Uzi as both of these greyhounds are more then capable of closing fast at the end.
Picks: 6 - 5 - 3 - 1
Race 18 - Finishing out the card tonight we have a grade TA race over the 703 distance course and the pick is the (8) PJ Spendingmoney. The outside position should be the edge needed here for her and she is coming off a nice second place effort last time out. The (5) KL's Dakota has early speed and may be the leader out of the box so will use him for that reason. Coming off a big win last time, let's use the (3) Colt Classic as he won by 7 lengths in that race. Closing hard will be the (4) L's Flaco who has encountered much trouble lately but is capable of a big late move down the stretch.
Picks: 8 - 5 - 3 - 4
Tonight's Moneymaker play is in race 1, a grade D contest over the 583 yard course and I am going with the invader from Caliente who is the (2) Incko. She is a double drop greyhound and worth at least a small play from me off her second and third place showings in two of her last three races. I would like her a little more if she had drawn an outside post but with the odds she will have, I'm going to give it a try.
