Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/7/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
This evening at Southland Greyhound Park we have a card of 18 exciting races in store and several which I believe offer some solid wagering opportunities. I have concentrated my picks on those contests and I'm looking to put some cash in the pocket this evening.
Race 9 - Grade M - 583 yards - I like the (8) Fly Jonah Hill as the key here as the reasoning is he is coming off a schooling win of 6 lengths and his winning time is about a half of second faster then any other greyhound in the race. A strong challenge will come from the (7) PJ Confession who is well posted for his wide running style. He may try to go early here but if not, he still has a very good closing ability and should be flying down the stretch. To complete the tri and superfecta plays I will use the (3) Flying Tigerlady and the (6) Flying Sabathia as both show early speed and could be battling for the lead out of the box. This is a race with a very good looking group of young greyhounds with tons of potential for their future.
Picks: 8 - 7 - 3 - 6
Race 15 - Grade SAA - 820 yards - An always exciting and entertaining super marathon race with my choice for the key being the (8) KL's Wanda. She has early speed, likes it mid-track and is going for her fourth win in her last five races. The (2) Kiowa Tree Red will pose a strong challenge as she has a good rush and is going for her third win in her last four contests and could be vying for the lead right out of the box. The (7) Flying Onlooker is adjusting well to the Southland track after coming from Naples and I will also use the late closing and wide running (6) PJ New York to complete the ticket.
Picks: 8 - 2 - 7 - 6
Race 16 - Grade A - 583 yards - Going with the (4) Arkans Quincey as the one to beat here, he has a very strong rush and should be the frontrunner early. He tends to be a tad short at times so I will use both the (2) Slatex Jamaica and the (3) PJ Marlins as they have the class to challenge as well and each could be vying for lead right out of the box should Arkans Quincey miss his break or encounter any early trouble. The (7) Carrigfergus has had trouble of late but does like it mid to wide so I'll use him to finish my play.
Picks: 4 - 2 - 3 - 7
Race 18 - Grade AA - 703 yards - I like the (5) Kiowa Groom as the key in this very competitive race. He is getting back in form after almost a three month absence from the track and already has a win and a third place finish over this distance in his last three contests. Another strong candidate that must be used is the rail running (1) Boc's Yohanblake. He has six top three finishes in his last six races and the post position makes him a threat for sure. The (3) L's Flaco is running hard as evidenced by his three straight second place finishes and can't be overlooked and the (8) Flying War Wager is going for her fourth win in her last five contests so I will include both in the picks.
Picks: 5 - 1 - 3 - 8
The Moneymaker pick is in the 6th race, a grade B contest over the 583 yard course and is the (2) Mega Catamaran. I like this greyhound because he is dropping in class, likes the inside and has a decent shot of making the lead early. With the odds he will probably go off at, he's worth a shot at playing.
