Gulfstream: How to bet the $7,852 Super High 5 carryover
If you can select the top five finishers in Sunday’s 10th race at Gulfstream Park, you can win a share of a $7,852 carryover in the $1 Super High 5.
Race 10 (post time 5:51 p.m. ET) is a $35,000 maiden claimer for three-year-olds and older horses racing 7 1/2 furlongs on turf. Nine horses have entered, so there are only 15,120 possible Super High 5 outcomes to analyze. But there’s a mix of horses who are dropping in class, jumping up in class, switching surfaces, and racing for the first time, so it’s a tricky race to analyze.
One horse who seems likely to vie for victory is #4 Saint in the City (2-1). In February 2023, he finished third in a one-mile maiden special weight over the Gulfstream grass. The winner, Carl Spackler, has since won two graded stakes.

Saint in the City faltered to eighth place in an identical contest two months later, then didn’t race again until March of this year, when he showed early speed in a 1 1/16-mile turf maiden special weight at Gulfstream before faltering to finish sixth by 4 1/4 lengths. Dropping in class for a $35,000 maiden claimer should make Saint in the City formidable for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, who wins at an impressive 37% rate with horses dropping in class from maiden special weight to maiden claiming company.
That 37% win rate is strong enough to warrant keying Saint in the City on top in the Super High 5. But who should we use underneath?
#2 One Bite (3-1) seems like a solid choice to secure a minor award. He’s cracked the trifecta six times from nine starts, including in two of his three starts on turf. This year, he’s finished second and third in a pair of $25,000 maiden claimers over the Gulfstream grass, earning Brisnet Speed ratings of 82 and 77 that stack up well against Sunday’s field.
#8 Bivol (7-2) and #9 Il Siciliano (10-1) are other logical contenders to finish in the top five while dropping in class out of maiden special weights, and #7 Fight Til Dawn (6-1) has a chance as well after finishing fourth in a $35,000 maiden claimer at Gulfstream last time out.
Here’s how we’ll bet the Super High 5:
- $1 Super High 5: 4 with 2 with 7,8,9 with 7,8,9 with 3,5,7,8,9 ($18)
- $1 Super High 5: 4 with 7,8,9 with 2 with 7,8,9 with 3,5,7,8,9 ($18)
- $1 Super High 5: 4 with 7,8,9 with 7,8,9 with 2 with 3,5,7,8,9 ($18)
Total: $54
Good luck!
