Gulfstream: How to bet the mandatory-payout $53,613 Pick 6 carryover
The Saturday card at Gulfstream Park features three stakes and the mandatory payout of a $53,613 Rainbow Pick 6 carryover.
Let’s take a race-by-race look at the Pick 6 sequence and assemble a ticket for less than $60:
Race 6: $35,000 Starter Optional Claiming (seven furlongs)
#7 Mish (6-5 has cracked the trifecta in a couple of recent stakes at Charles Town and Parx Racing. Returning to Gulfstream (where he wired a pair of sprints over this class level in June and July) should make him tough to beat, though #9 Black Belt (6-1) has the Brisnet Speed ratings to challenge on his best day.
What are mandatory-payout carryovers, and why are they valuable?

Race 7: $25,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (seven furlongs)
#5 Big Martini (5-2) has crossed the wire first in three of his last four starts sprinting at Gulfstream, most recently wiring a $20,000 allowance optional claimer for Florida-breds by seven lengths. Strong Brisnet Speed ratings stamp him as the horse to beat, though it could be a mistake to overlook the multiple graded stakes-placed #9 Classic Car Wash (9-2), a three-year-old who has been freshened since April.
Race 8: FTBOA Florida Sire Susan’s Girl S. (seven furlongs)
#11 R Harper Rose (9-5) is a Brisnet Speed rating standout. Whereas none of her rivals have posted a number higher than 88, R Harper Rose has thrown down figures of 93 and 92 while wiring her first two starts against non-state-restricted competition by daylight margins. Tackling a restricted stakes should make R Harper Rose mighty tough to beat for the red-hot jockey/trainer duo of Edgard Zayas and Saffie Joseph.
Race 9: Gil Campbell Memorial H. (one mile)
Smile Sprint (G3) winner #7 Dean Delivers is the favorite after finishing third in Saratoga’s Alfred G. Vanderbilt H. (G1) behind multiple Grade 1 winners Elite Power and Gunite, but he’s 0-for-3 racing one mile and was beaten to second place as the favorite in this race last year. It may prove unnecessary, but spreading deep with #3 Slim Slow Slider (8-1), #4 Handy Dandy (12-1), #5 Big and Classy (3-1), #9 The Skipper Too (12-1), and #10 Octane (12-1) will give us a chance to catch a longshot winner if Dean Delivers falters.
Race 10: FTBOA Florida Sire Affirmed S. (seven furlongs)
#7 Bentornato (9-5) is unbeaten in three starts and threw down a powerful 100 Brisnet Speed rating when dominating the FTBOA Florida Sire Dr. Fager S. by 7 1/2 lengths last month. He’s shaping up as a viable single, even while facing 11 rivals.
Race 11: $25,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (one mile and 70 yards on Tapeta)
This race feels like one in which anything could happen, so we’ll cover everything by hitting the “ALL” button. It will sharply boost the cost of our ticket, but if we make it this far and catch a longshot winner in the closing leg, our investment will be worthwhile.
- 20-cent Pick 6: 7,9 with 5,9 with 11 with 3,4,5,7,9,10 with 7 with ALL ($57.60)
Good luck!
