Gulfstream Park: How to bet the mandatory-payout $464,803 Rainbow Pick 6 carryover

June 26th, 2021

Some folks might be disappointed there aren’t any stakes scheduled at Gulfstream Park this Saturday. But bettors won’t mind—not with a $464,803 Rainbow Pick 6 carryover set for mandatory dispersal.

The six-race sequence looks difficult to handicap with 63 horses (10.5 per race) among the entries. But if we can assemble a winning ticket, we’re bound to catch an enticing payoff.

Let’s take a race-by-race look at the Rainbow Pick 6, then put together a play on a $48 budget:

Race 7: $12,500 Maiden Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs, 3:23 p.m. ET)

#1 Personal Meadow (5-2) has finished second twice in slightly longer sprints over this class level at Gulfstream Park. The front-running sophomore should be tough to catch while cutting back in distance, though #10 Dream of Warrior (3-1) is eligible to put up a fight after finishing second for a $35,000 tag two starts back.

Race 8: $35,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (1 1/16 miles on turf, 3:55 p.m. ET)

#3 Kartano (7-5) has been knocking heads with tough company, most recently coming home third by 1 1/2 lengths in the English Channel S. racing 1 1/16 miles over the Gulfstream lawn. Dropping down the class ladder, while sticking to the same course and distance, stamps Kartano as a logical single.

Race 9: $16,000 Maiden Claiming (seven furlongs, 4:29 p.m. ET)

#1 Sandy Dude (3-1) and #3 Kathern’s Joy (2-1) have both run well over this class level at Gulfstream, but I wouldn’t sleep on the chances of #2 Boldness (6-1). The son of Big Drama weakened after tracking the pace in his debut for a $25,000 tag, so he’s eligible to improve while facing easier competition.

Race 10: $12,500 Claiming (one mile on turf, 5:02 p.m. ET)

A competitive field with many logical contenders is on tap. #1 Mr Tito’s (5-2), #4 Deckology (6-1), #5 Easy Stride (4-1), #7 Kramden (9-2), and #9 Calabash (7-2) all have the Brisnet Speed ratings and form lines to factor on their best day.

Race 11: $12,500 Claiming (one mile, 5:35 p.m. ET)

#8 Union Gap (5-2) has rattled off three straight victories, but two came against $6,250 company, and all three were sprints. He’s not a lock to win while stepping up in class and distance, so we’ll back him up with recent $12,500 maiden claiming winner #5 Divert (3-1) and the class-dropping duo of #3 Brett’s World (6-1) and #4 Braccio Di Ferro (5-1), who have been facing tougher $20,000 company.

Race 12: $12,500 Maiden Claiming (1 1/16 miles on turf, 6:08 p.m. ET)

#6 Kick in the Gas (8-5) finished fourth in his debut for a $35,000 tag, with a pair of next-out winners among his three conquerors. The son of Tourist looks tough to beat while adding blinkers and dropping down to the $12,500 level for high-percentage trainer Saffie Joseph. But #2 Wolfhand (8-1) offers longshot appeal while exiting a maiden special weight and switching from dirt to turf, considering he’s bred just fine to handle grass.

20-cent Rainbow Pick 6: 1,10 with 3 with 1,2,3 with 1,4,5,7,9 with 3,4,5,8 with 2,6 ($48)

Good luck!
