Gulfstream Park Late Pick 4 for Monday, Feb. 17

Gulfstream Park will play host to 10 stakes races on a fine 11-race card on Presidents’ Day. The latter four events of the day (Races 8-11) are of particular interest to me, as I believe that a few short-priced contenders could be vulnerable. Playing the Late Pick 4 will be a worthy investment if I am correct.

Race 8 -- American Fabius S.

A field of 11 sophomores will vie in the 7-furlong dash. Unbeaten #5 Disc Jockey (9-5) will be tough with a repeat of his latest for Joseph. Bodemeister colt was a winner on debut, and the bay returned to dominate allowance runners off the claim in his first for new connections. Kentucky-bred retains Irad Ortiz.

Turf stakes winner #1 Captain D (8-1), #9 Fast Loaded (6-1), and Antonio Sano’s #8 Iberico (9-2), are also in with a big chance in a competitive cast.

Race 9 -- Sage of Monticello S.

The mile turf test attracted 10 3-year-olds, and I am expecting a price in the wide-open grassy endeavor. My top pick, #8 Fentynola (20-1), showed marked improvement with blinkers most recently and could light up the board stretching out under Luca Panici.

#3 Reckless Spirit (8-1), #7 Uncork the Bottle (4-1), and the recently gelded #6 K W Captain Flint (6-1), will be the others on the ticket.

Race 10 -- Rail Splitter S.

A total of eight sprinters will travel 6 1/2 furlongs on the main surface in a well-matched field. It’s hard for me to separate much in the dash, so I will spread in the third leg of the sequence.

#2 Colour Guard (5-2), #3 First Deal (3-1), #6 Benefactor (4-1), #7 Fortune Cookie (10-1), and #8 Early Entry (9-2), are the five that I will include.

Race 11 -- Old Man Eloquent S.

The card concludes with a 1 1/16-mile turf endeavor featuring an overflow field of 14. #8 Muggsamatic (7-2) has run huge on back-to-back occasions at the meeting since being claimed by Jason Servis.

Any Given Saturday gelding just missed behind a very good one in the Sunshine Millions Turf most recently, and he will be formidable with a repeat of that performance. I will single him to close out the play.
