Action on the Hambletonian Trail lightens this week with trotters pointing to the first Saturday in August gathering at the Meadowlands on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7 for two overnight events and exclusively the fillies in the $66,200 Reynolds Trot on Saturday.

The ninth race on the Friday program collects hopefuls Classichap, Quantum Kemp, Tactical Landing, Boxing Gloves, Southwind Chrome and Broadway Bruiser as well as an “Oaks” contender with Pandora’s Box.

Of the eligibles, Southwind Chrome should win this race given he beat these handily in his most recent start; however he will go off a low price. Quantum Kemp has the potential to challenge the likely favorite after finishing third to him last out and making two moves doing so. This lightly raced Jimmy Takter trainee has improved in each outing and should at least finish in contention.

Hopefuls kick off the Saturday card in a conditioned trotting event that includes eligibles U Need Stones, Unforgetable, Donatover, Zephyr Kronos, Tae Kwon Deo and Hat Trick Habit. While he might go the favorite, Zephyr Kronos has the best ability on paper and can be value if ignored by the public.

Aside from the obvious, Hat Trick Habit could get involved at a decent price given he’s making his first start since breaking in the Goodtimes as well as for the Di Domenico barn. He has the speed to wire this field but also likely trots the oval carefully. Nonetheless, that could still put him on the ticket.

Oaks-eligibles Fair Chase, Basquiat, Ciao Dolce, Fury Road, Samis Rolin Stone, Repentance, What A Knockout and Lima Novelty congregate in the Reynolds. Starting from post 10, What A Knockout enters off a mile that deserves taking favoritism but she could still go at a decent price given her outside draw.

If What A Knockout does not provide a good price, Repentance also has the ability to perform at this level. She also starts from an outside post which could inflate her odds a touch but has been racing sharply overall in comparison to others in this field who appear to be regrouping or slightly off their game.
