Hanson's look at Thursday's Golden Gate Pick 6

May 13th, 2020

A mandatory dispersal of the Golden Pick 6 pool, seeded with a $398,294 carryover dating to late March, awaits bettors as racing re-starts Thursday at Golden Gate Fields in Northern California. The sequence covers the last six events, and here's how the sequence is shaping up in my eyes.

Race 4

#5 WAVERLY WAY (7-2) and #6 TOOLEY TUNES (20-1) are both closing types in a 6-furlong race where a relatively strong pace is possible among the three program favorites. Perhaps the most talented of latter is the lightly-raced #3 REAL KEEPER (3-1), though she might prove a bit short in her first outing since last June.

Race 5

Although not the easiest of singles to rely on in the sequence, #4 CAPE POINT (9-5) seemingly has to make some forward progress while taking a significant drop in class from maiden special weight company on the tougher Southern California circuit.

Race 6

#4 DIAMONDSNCHAMPAGNE (5-2) has seven wins over this surface and looms the one to catch in this 5 1/2-furlong dash. #3 RIDE OUT THE STORM (9-2) faced tougher on the grass last season and won her only race previous attempt on the Tapeta main track. #7 MISS LUCKY LAGER (6-1) was in the frame multiple times before the cessation of racing earlier in the year, and should be well-positioned from the get-go behind Diamondsnchampagne.

Race 7

Ignoring more disappointing tries of late, #9 LIVE IT WELL (6-1) displayed fondness for the grass earlier in her career and the return to that surface here could energize her at a fair price. #7 SAY IT WITH ROSES (9-2) perhaps over the top following a belated maiden special weight victory over this course in November. Takes a needed drop in class off the freshening and will be prominent early. #4 MOONSHINE ANNIE (3-1) has way more career losses than you'd like to see, but has run some relatively good races and drops to the lowest level of her career in this spot.

Race 8

Trainer Ron Ellis has done remarkably well with debut runners of late, thus first-time starter #5 WHY THE LONG FACE (4-1) looms a potentially significant threat in this maiden claimer. #7 BREAKFAST BALL (8-1) has room to improve off a decent fourth in her debut on Mar. 21, while #3 BEAUTIFUL BABE (6-1) did not have the best of trips when favored against similar on the same card.

Race 9

Leading trainer Wong sends out recent claim #2 STUDLY PERFECTION (4-1) and could prove the speed of the speed while adding blinkers. In close attendance should be #8 KING EDDIE (6-1), who is 2-for-4 over this lawn. Another with a strong mark over this course is #1 CONQUEST SABRE CAT (8-1), who is 3-for-5 but faces a bit better than he's used to meeting.

The 20-cent ticket:

  • 3,5,6 with 4 with 3,4,7 with 4,7,9 with 3,5,7 with 1,2,8 = $48.60
