MOHAWK MILES

Each week we highlight probable long shots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

Race 1 — #1 Dealin Duble (7-1): Qualified evenly for hot-percentage trainer.
Race 6 — #1 Elises Delight (3-1): Third in photo at the wire with a 5-1 promise.
Race 8 — #2 Write The Rules (2-1): Fifth by only 1 1/2 lengths in a tight field.

POWER PLAYS

Philadelphia, Races 2, 3

As Philly flows through its first week of the season we create our first Philly Power Plays with a Win Parlay and single-race wagers of your choice.

Race 2
The combination of sire Walner and trainer Trond Smedshammer puts our money on #7 Walover (3-1). An easy qualifier on this surface, finishing second by a tick, made the time requirement and reserved energy as the winner drew off by six lengths. Trond welcomes spring en route to bigger miles with this classy trotter.
#3 Crazy Cash (8-1) also comes from a good qualifier and debuts with promise.

Race 3
#2 Sandradimples (20-1) was impressive finishing third behind the two public choices at Freehold and deserves a leap of faith to improve on the bigger track. As well, after a win at Dover, #4 Legal Jeopardy (7-2) could have a lot left in the tank to sway the result here.

MATCHMAKER SERIES LEG 4, $40k

Yonkers

Race 3
This week we look for a solid path to upset probable favorites in this division. That is, unless the crowd sees the strong possibility #4 Mabalene N (4-1) may race big here. Last week from the 8 hole she was a little tired and crowded in the stretch and this week she should have more power for all four turns.

Race 6
It’s near impossible to toss out #1 Drama Act (1-1) from the rail—however, a good trip behind her and maybe a couple of saved-ground late steps (or a rousing drive) can present surprises (win or exacta’s second) from #5 Delitfulcatherin N (7-1).

Race 8
This division is a mighty mass of mares but that may just allow #4 Majorca N (5-1) to go off higher than last week, which would be over 3-2, and have a better chance than that to beat the two to her left. We see no other way to go if the betting goes our way.

FEATURES

Hoosier Park, Race 7

Here’s a race aching for a superfecta blowout. We offer four strong contenders (in post order) you can build a ticket around for the “super” numbers and for triples and exactas.

#1 Ill Tell Yourdaddy (12-1) — Speedy and dominant when on stride.
#2 Lupa (7-2) — Primed for a good mile to begin a good season.
#3 Business Check (5-2) — Should be around late in the stretch to contribute.
#5 Six Again (6-5) — Fresh from flirting with a win at Miami.

BORGATA PACING SERIES LEG 5, $50K

Yonkers

Race 3
All we can imagine for a scenario in this is #3 Jimmy Freight — on a roll for Pelling — and #4 Backstreet Shadow — recently on fire — dueling for the benefit of another in the small field to take some late steps and win as they burn out. That mile gets us #5 Priceless Beach, who can shut them down in the stretch, again at a price (we backed him paying $50 earlier in the seaon).

Race 6
Let’s return to #1 None Bettor A getting the best as the obvious top dogs push the limits of their posts to go all the way. This is the division in which “None” can make the best of the series.

Race 8
Again, #5 Leonidas A gets a field he can take late as the speed fizzles and do so offering better dough than usual. As well, #3 Covered Bridge could be sucked into the win and/or the exotics so watch out.

Horses to Watch

H2W Legend

Review our choices and confirm the wagers available at the prescribed track. H2W offers possible contenders researched from reviewing races. Horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track with the date of their race and the race number (R6) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name, it appears on the list for the second time (horses are listed twice only if, at first, they failed to win. An “ae” signals also-eligible. Types of wagers to make are based on your judgment.
