MOHAWK MILES

Each week we highlight probable long shots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

Race 1 — #1 Bella Cavalla (4-1): Placed well to start, late move gets third.
Race 4 — #3 Dali Cat (10-1): Win at Western Fair earns this spot for a shot.
Race 6 — #6 Thelegendcontinues (15-1): Broken gear as leader at 18-1.
Race 8 — #5 Belvedere Bronx (10-1): Bet back drops from series.

POWER PLAYS

Monticello, Pick 5, Races 3-7

When building a Pick-5 ticket, seriously consider the following entries:

Race 3 — #2 Rub Ofthe Green N (5-2): Qualified as fast as the winner.
Race 4 — #6 Coach Cal (3-1): Big ground-saving trip can win it.
Race 5 — #6 Causeay (12-1): Qualifier workout from top barn. #1 Sporty Redhot (3-1): Third at 9-1 with potential.
Race 6 — #1 Thereisapaceforus (3-1): Best of the rest among these last time.
Race 7 — #6 Fear My Shadow (4-1): Scratched at Freehold, returns after 8-hole crawl.

Rosecroft, Races 1, 2

A pair of outsiders are worthy of attention for single- and multi-race wagers.

Race 1
#4 Twist Knot (8-1) looked bored in the second half of last week’s race. We may never know the exact reason so we’re forgiving and expect more in his fifth start of the year where he hit the board twice in four attempts.

Race 2
Another mystery is David Rearic’s #1 Select Friday (8-1). A 49-1 shot from this barn is neither a terror nor a toss out. Last week he made one strong brush of nearly six lengths without changing position as his foes struggled chasing a big favorite. Rearic drives again here, where the path to cashing a check could be better and as profitable for success as last week.

Here are our four top contenders for race 6 (in post order), which is the beginning of a Pick 4 ($50k guraranteed pool); a leg of the Survivor 7 and other single-race exotics.

#2 Super Girl (8-5) — Top-bred filly off to a great start
#4 Into The Unknown (10-1) — Ships in after big mile at Dover at 53-1.
#6 Always Beachy (8-1) — Race better than the odds to finish third.
#9 American Halo (7-2) — Good qualifier win points to strong mile.
