MOHAWK MILES

Each week, we highlight probable longshots from Mohawk Park (WoMo) in this features section. If they do not win at first crack, we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

Race 5—Go Have Fun; A bet-back mile at a better price.
Race 6—Punch The Clock; Longshot broke but made qualifying time.
Race 9—Moonstruck; One more try at this level.

GREEN ONES

Meadowlands

Two-year-old colt trotters bred in New Jersey are a tight bunch and in this $30K sires stakes, a lot is debatable. However, the lone Muscle Hill-bred, Mars Hill, has one win in one start and could make it 2-for-2. Aside from win, hook him up with D R Ackerman’s Mr Grant; it’s a boxed exacta that could pay big.

NEW YORK PACE

Saratoga

New York Sires Stakes (NYSS) for frosh-colt pacers are competitive with the few top sires represented.

Race 4

Huntsville two-year-olds are charging again so far this season and this $74K NYSS division offers three. Of them, let’s go for the unobvious Huntsville competitor, Huntingforchrome. The crowd may put a premium on earnings, but it’s way too early to measure this division by bucks.

Race 5

Again, Huntsville colts are the best across-the-board and exacta contestants. In this battle of six, Darius may not be the favorite and offers a fair price to show his serious talent.

GERRITY GANG

Saratoga

Race 6 is the track’s premium event, the Joe Gerrity Jr. Memorial ($250K) for older pacers, and it presents major talent. Covered Bridge has been adrift since pounding the top pacers at Yonkers on July 10, and Tattoo Artist comes out of the “Haughton” herd, where he was coasting to the wire but finished second at 10-1. That event could wind up to be a key race, with most, if not all, of its field returning to win their next race.

H2W LIST

Horses to watch (H2W) are strong contenders evaluated from overnight-race charts (including qualifiers), replays and trainers’ current win percentages. Each horse appears in two consecutive lists if it does not win on its first listing.

H2W horses are suggested for win, place, show (across the board) wagering and are to be included in exotic combinations.

Exactas listed in H2W results reflect an H2W horse finishing second to a race favorite or if the first two finishers were on the list, when an asterisk appears for cold exactas. The note “OK” determines prices are correct when a show price exceeds the place price or all three prices are identical.

Some results reflect horses racing after preview blog posts and appear the following week. As well, some horses will not appear a second time when their first time is followed by a race at a non-parimutuel fair. They will get a second time on the list when returning to a betting race.
