Selected features and the never-ending TwinSpires’ horses-to-watch list (H2W) share keys to success in exotics, win, place and show payoffs.

Thursday, June 2

MOHAWK MILES

Each Thursday we highlight some probable long shots from Mohawk Park. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as bet-backs or in selected features, adding new possibilities to this section.
R8 – Blue Bayou Deo: Two moves in last to finish third at 16-1.
R10 – Jim Strikesitrich: Patiently moved for a 10 lengths stretch charge.

FEATURES

Philly, Race 4

Here’s a conditioned race where a lightly raced trotter has a few good things going for him which should present a good price. As it is, Jumpinthejailhouse is listed in the Morning Line (ML) at 9-1. First, since Dover ended, a few of the best horsemen at the meet scattered around the east and are doing well at other venues. Trainer John Wagner puts Dover regular Victor Kirby in the bike for this trotters fifth race of the season. Jumpinthejailhouse has won one race and aside from the ML favorite (Silent Symbol) it’s the most any of the field has won. Those two could produce a fine exacta and if you add Serrano Volo for the show spot it could wind up a strong trifecta even if—dare I say it—boxed.

Friday, June 3

GRADUATE L2

Mohawk, Race 6

The Mare Trot division of the series holds a field of seven. We are out to beat #1 Venerate who will be an underlay here and we think we could do it with #5 Incommunicado. Ake Svenstedt’s trotter trounced a field at Pocono and could race even better on the seven-eighths Canadian surface. Ake is committed to the series and shipped the gal over the border to make a big impression.

Saturday, June 4

GRADUATE L2

Mohawk, Races 3, 4, 8

Race 3
A Mare Pace division ($50k) starts the series’ triptych. With only six going there are good vibes for Todd Luther’s #2 Off The Record. She comes from a loss but in a field separated by 2 lengths, tops. She’s in a good spot for a perfect trip at a price.

Race 4
Eight male pacers go ($62k) with Canadian favorite #4 Bulldog Hanover the one to beat, which we want to do with the other Canadian star #7 Lawless Shadow. At three, we thought the latter was all around a better pacer and at four we make the same call.

Race 8
In the second male pace let’s beat #8 Carbine, who scorched a field last week at The Meadowlands and will get big backing here. A longshot possibility is #3 Linedrive Hanover. He just won a stakes at Flamboro and is sharp now and will go off here at odds much higher than his chances.

THE ‘BEACH’ BOYS

Mohawk, Races 2, 6

Race 2
Soph-colt pacers prep for the North America Cup in two Somebeachsomewhere splits. The first ($81k) includes a bet-back for us with #2 Sport Secret. He was impressive in the SBOA final last week, finishing second and sits in a pretty spot to improve.

Race 6
Only six go in this split ($80k) and the huge favorite will be #5 Stonebridge Helios, who is the “Cup” early choice. Again, we want to catch an improving soph to make our way to another longshot win in the Cup. For price and purpose, the colt we support is #3 Greatest Ending. He is stepping into higher company but don’t downplay the win getting him here. It proved that he belonged with the best and he’ll pay them off big if that is the case.
