MOHAWK MILES
Each Thursday we highlight some probable long shots from Mohawk Park. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as bet-backs or in selected features, adding new possibilities to this section.
R1 — #6 Mo Power Baby: The Muscle Massive freshman delivered a fine qualifier with a steady gait and is ready for a winning mile.
R4 — #3 Cheese So Pretty: This Betterthancheddar frosh filly comes from an impressive off-the-trot qualifying win.

MESSENGER ELIMS
Yonkers
A pair of $40k elims are on the program to set the cast for next week’s Messenger Stakes Final for soph-colt pacers. Six go in each field.
Race 7
A faintly predicted champion crop from Downbytheseaside includes #3 Gulf Shores, who we endorse in this elim over two of the probable public choices. The Ohio-bred just won soundly on the Northfield half mile and is up for the challenge against the likes of sophs by Captaintreacherous and Sweet Lou. The Brian Brown-trained pacer should be the valued wager in the sextet.
Race 9
We’ll take on more public choices with betting-outsider #3 Hammering Hank from the Brett Pelling barn. It’s only the colt’s second race this season but this son of Captaintreacherous was the 11th best earner at two, winning eight of 11 starts and $283k. He was third at Philly in a state-bred stakes as a beaten favorite and Pelling will have him ready for this major event.
YONKERS TROT ELIMS
Race 8
Marcus Melander’s #5 Joviality S is taking on the boys in the classic Yonkers Trot while already bundles of cash ahead of the six foes in this elim. #3 Brave By Design will be heavily bet along with #6 Slay, so the filly may be worth it here, if not in the final.
Race 10
We are going to go with the Cantab Hall colt #3 Double Deceiver against the obvious public choice, #4 Justice. This could be a big season for the sire. Already, another son, Fast As The Wind, has won impressively (the Goodtimes) for one of the most underrated trotting sires of the past few years.
HOOSIER CUP ELIMS
Hoosier Park
Race 10
Two sets of six soph-colt pacers appear to earn spots into the final in one of two $15k elims. Elim one offers three sharp speedy stock from sire JK Endofanera, led by top-earning #1 JK Victory, leaving from the inside for trainer Ron Burke. His challenge will be our main contender #5 Sure Thing Herman, a son of Tellitlikeitis from Erv Miller’s productive barn. This one is three for four and ready for a new mark.
Race 12
Miller has a shot at winning both elims if #4 The Longest Yard winds up the best of this field. Winning two of his three this season the son of Rockin Image easily won an Indiana-bred mile as the second choice over #3 Rip Wheeler, the proposed public choice here.

GRADUATES GO
Meadowlands
Race 2: The Mare Trot ($40k), Leg 3, asks #5 Bella Bellini to beat four others and it looks as if there is nothing else she can do.
Race 4: The Open Trot ($50k), Leg 3, could produce a good price on #6 Cuatro De Julio, who flew off to win easily at Oak Grove against lesser but nonetheless quickly.
Race 6: The Mare Pace ($40k), Leg 3, demands another look at #7 Fire Start Hanover, who could pump up the exacta either way with #1 Test Of Faith.
Race 7: The Open Trot ($50k), Leg 3, is the toughest of the Grad quartet and should offer a good price on #5 Take All Comers, who was all out finishing a strong second in Leg 2 at 5-1 at Mohawk.
Race 9: The Open Pace, Leg 3, #8 Billy Clyde is maturing well enough to take on better, which he does here after a sharp second in a conditioner at the Meadowlands where he was overlooked at 14-1.
Horses to Watch
H2W Legend
Review our choices and confirm the wagers available at the prescribed track. H2W offers possible contenders researched from reviewing races. Horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track with the date of their race and the race number (R6) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name, it appears on the list for the second time (horses are listed twice only if, at first, they failed to win. An “ae” signals also-eligible. Types of wagers to make are based on your judgment.
