MOHAWK MILES

Each week, we highlight probable longshots from Mohawk Park (WoMo) in this features section. If they do not win at first crack, we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.
 
Race 6—Villefranche AS; Beaten favorite up for a win here.
Race 8—Glenfidich; Third with two others at the wire.
Race 10—Moonstruck; Tough trip at 5-1, then scratched for this.

Friday, June 30

NEW YORK, NEW YORK MILE FINAL ($100K)

Yonkers

Nine soph-filly trotters stretch to 1 1/16 miles, and it’s merely a case of beating Sadie Hanover. The extra distance gives others some hope, including Emira Mil It, also unbeaten this season, and the true outside contender, Secret Volo. That one could pick up the important pieces late if the top two don’t spare speed.

PARK MGM FILLY PACE ($115L)

Yonkers

Eight soph-filly pacers go a mile. We filled in an exacta with Lisa Lane in an elim and look for an upset here against the toughest, obvious crowd choices. Also dangerous here is Turn On The Charm, the only Huntsville product.

MESSENGER STAKES ($250K)

Yonkers

Soph-colt pacers did not have to earn their way here in elims. There are 10, two leaving in the second tier for the mile. We’ll go with Seven Colors, who pursued the N.A. Cup. Fourth to It’s My Show in an elim, he missed the final. That class could show up big time here.

THE YONKERS TROT ($300K)

Yonkers

First jewel in the Trotting Triple Crown, eight earned their appearance in this classic mile. Ake Svanstedt’s duo will get all of the money, except ours. We’re backing Marcus Melander’s underrated Crown for price and purpose.

Meadowlands

Race 6

In the $112K Six Pack for mare trotters, we have to support Fashion Schooner since here she should be the best mare for the price in this short field.

Race 7

In the $142K Perfect Sting for mare pacers, we like the value probably offered to Boudoir Hanover, as opposed to the probable favorite Grace Hill. Exacta warning goes to Silver Label, from a classy bunch.

Race 9

The $155K Crawford Farms brings us back to Venerate. The super square-gaited champ is primed for a fabulous season against any sex at any distance.

Race 10

The Dave Brower Memorial sends the stalwart older pacers into battle. It’s a tough field to measure because the bunch of them are practically interchangeable in talents. If you like the price on Ruthless Hanover, take it; there should be no surprise if he takes this.
