Harness Preview: Picks and Horses to Watch March 16-20

Selected features, stakes coverage and the never-ending TwinSpires’ horses-to-watch list (H2W) share keys to success in exotics, win, place and show payoffs.

Thursday, March 16

MOHAWK MILES

Each week we highlight probable long shots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back, adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

Race 2 — #4 Busy Making Moni (2-1): Nimble winner strikes again.
Race 5 — #4 Chocolate Crackers (6-1): Tough trip hurt, fine trotting family class.
Race 6 — #4 Electro Long Legs (7-2): Early foot can shock foes.
Race 10 — #6 HP Running Mass (7-2): Returns confident after favored win.

POWER PLAYS

Rosecroft Raceway, Races 4, 5, 6

Here are our contenders for the 50-cent Pick 3. We feel they help exotic payoffs so consider them when building a Pick-3 ticket, as well as in single-race bets.

Race 4
#2 Benson Tye (8-1) could play a major role in combos and if he were to pace saving some ground he could start the Pick 3 with a big price. This is his class and a good trip appears to be the key to a good win.
#4 Mega Clyde (4-1) was a Hoosier hopeful racing among the best and has already shown that his strong breeding will kick in at the Maryland track.

Race 5
This is a field of desperate pacers that, though well bred, look to be tested against better horses. Among them we find #8 Taragon (6-1) may have an early-speed edge and if he fires off the gate from post 8 he could measure the lead and put a punch into the Pick 3.

Race 6
The change of trainer and venue brought #4 Century Hefner (7-2) a well-deserved win at a good price. It’s a step down from the Meadowlands to Rosecroft and this group does not seem capable of convincing the Megan Roberts-trained son of Sunshine Beach to go back to New Jersey soon. It is a clever choice of conditions for Megan’s new possession to continue winning.

POWER PLAYS

Meadowlands, Race 6, 7, 8, 9

Here are our contenders for the 50-cent Pick 4. We feel they help exotic payoffs so consider them when building a Pick-3 ticket, as well as in single-race bets.

Race 6
#6 Racer Dan (12-1) won at Pocono and may be on a fiery lead throughout. #1 A New Leader (7-2) went an even mile to finish third at 12-1.

Race 7
#4 Always Be True (9-2) had no chance from the seven-hole at Yonkers, toss that one out and expect better here.

Race 8
#9 Lindys Booze Cruz (15-1) was lazier than expected last week, gets another shot here at a good price. #6 Scirocco Patrick (8-1) scratched for a better spot here. Look out.

Race 9
#1 Kaitlyn N (9-2) burned out after a tough mid-mile brush and is in a better spot to perform with lots of Yonkers class.

Saturday, March 18

FEATURES

Pocono, Race 12

Hardly a mystery handicapping this race, #1 Eurobond (5-2) reveals a winning hand of reasons to be a key horse in all bets offered. Not only is he cashing for prolific trainer Travis Alexander, he comes off a win at Pocono from post 8 last week, making the slight rise in class moot.

If that’s not enough, look at the competition, dare you call it that. Two debut for the season; two others have only won once; and three others are being beaten too much already.

The race is for second.
