Harness Preview: Picks and Horses to Watch May 4-8

Selected features, stakes coverage, and the never-ending TwinSpires’ horses-to-watch list (H2W) share keys to success in exotics, win, place, and show payoffs.

Thursday, May 4

MOHAWK MILES

Each week we highlight probable long shots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

Race 2—Lyons Addiction (10-1): Entered after a fine performance at Flamboro.
Race 6—Nimah Franco N (3-1): Close against better last out, bet back.
Race 10—Warrawee Yang (2-1): Big move too late as favorite, nabs third.

POWER PLAYS

Hoosier Park, Races 11, 12, 13, 14

Hit the late Pick-4 at Hoosier Park on Thursday and split the $1,000 daily jackpot.

Here are our contenders for the Pick 4. We feel they help exotic payoffs so consider them when building a Pick 4 ticket, as well as for single-race bets.

Race 11
Marla's Got Legs (4-1) is a beaten favorite that can pace the same mile and win this time. VH Princess Brea (2-1), though burning money and disappointing the public, may find the perfect trip at this lower class now that she’s coming back to Indiana.

Race 12
As good a single as can be found among this class is Layallyourloveonme (2-1). The well-bred filly drops to face weaker foes as the speed of the speed.

Race 13
Don’t let the recent lines of Pure Cotton (2-1) scare you. She has raced well at Yonkers and had one good mile over this course that looks like it is leading to a win here.

Race 14
Vel What A Star (also-eligible) surprised chalk bettors with a sharp finish third and returns here with obvious power but may still offer a top price. Go Viral (15-1), who we nabbed in a maiden, can handle the toughest step-up in racing because the well-bred pacer may be better than all of these come July.

Friday, May 5

POWER PLAYS

Philadelphia, Races 5 and 8

Our contenders in the following two races are available for a personal parlay (to win, place, or show) and single-race exotics for any tickets you build.

Race 5
Ignatius A (8-1) was good for naught at the Meadowlands finishing fifth and yet was the public’s third choice (10-1). Noel Daley drops the pacer in class and puts him in at Philly. We expect Ignatius A to be good for much here and that his post 8 launch will be no problem.

Race 8
Wine N Dine Me (2-1) was two ticks off a win last week as a second choice by pennies to the winner, which was only a few steps better due to an easy two quarters as the official favorite. There would be no excuse to be short in this field.

Saturday, May 6

POWER PLAYS

Meadowlands

Here are our contenders for the Pick 4. We feel they help exotic payoffs so consider them when building a Pick 4 ticket, as well as for single-race bets.

Race 10
Whole Lotta Lou hanged after a tough half and a better trip is expected. Hammering Hank returns for his second race of the season and Pelling should have him ready to improve.

Race 11
Annas Wish is seasoned compared to her foes, enough so to pile drive them.

Race 12
Mostinterestingman was a Yonkers favorite that galloped off the gate but soared back into action via the overland route and that was that. With a true gait he could win the length of a battlefield.

Race 13
Rau Ru wheeled a decent race at Philly and comes to Jersey dipping a bit and raring to improve for Cullipher. Love Your Work A raced big off the pace with the likes of this class and should be stomping hard here.
