Harness Preview: Picks and Horses to Watch Nov. 10-14

Selected features, stakes coverage and the never-ending TwinSpires’ horses-to-watch list (H2W) share keys to success in exotics, win, place and show payoffs.

Thursday, November 10

MOHAWK MILES

Each Thursday we are highlighting races featuring probable long shots at the Canadian harness meet. All horses that do not win at first crack appear the following week in the H2W as bet-backs or in selected features, adding new possibilities to this section.
R3 — #6 Clover (5-2): Beaten favorite could be coming from a key race.
R4 — #7 Barrett Hanover (5-2): A super win, could deliver a fair price to repeat.
R6 — #3 Commemorative (5-1): Outsider is forgiven for a slow start.
R9 — #1 One Last Bet (5-1): Impressive finish at 17-1.

MATRON STAKES

Dover Downs

Race 6 - 3yo filly trot ($135k)
There is no way out of using #7 Joviality S (2-1) as a key for exotics. Or pass. We like her atop whomsoever are the two longest shots on the board for $2 exactas and trifectas.

Race 8 - 3yo colt trot ($143k)
As per the filly trot, the colts may bow again to #6 King Of The North (2-1), but we are sticking with #5 Fast As The Wind (8-1) for an upset, as we hoped would happen at Hoosier. Remember, “King” was dismissed at huge odds when he woke up.

Race 10 - 3yo filly pace ($123k)
Another upset expectation is #5 Always Gonna B You (15-1). Her second at 15-1 in a state-bred final at Hoosier was a nifty feat in closing traffic and could probably win on or close to the top here.

Race 12 - 3yo colt pace ($158k)
Let’s forgive #3 Pleaseletmeknow (12-1) for losing as a huge choice at Philly in a Simpson stake to three opportunistic pacers on that graveyard-of-favorites stretch. He could get the trip he should have gotten there but at a bigger price against the obvious favorite; he is our choice for price and purpose.

HORIZONTAL HOLIDAY

The Meadows

The United States Trotting Association and the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association add guarantees to two pools on Friday, Nov.11 for $125,000 in guarantees. These are not jackpots. The Pick 5 carryover of $14,223 is guaranteed to $50,000 and the Super Hi-5’s carryover of $22,949 is guaranteed to $75,000. The Pick 5, a 20-cent wager, begins in Race 4. The Super Hi-5, also a 20-cent play, is on the final race on the card. We offer our contenders in each exotic; use them as you see fit for the tickets you build.

PICK 5

Race 4 — #6 Riot (9-1) fires from a great effort at Pocono; #9 Liberty N Freedom (7-2) is sharp and can handle the outside post for a productive trainer.
Race 5 — #4 Leroy Gibbs (7-1) is an improving Sweet Lou product; #5 Best Shadow (6-5) meets a field he can tolerate.
Race 6 — #1 Windsong Leo (7-2) is forgiven for the break, returns to perfect spot; #3 Sandbetweenmytoes (5-2) is in better shape than ever.
Race 7 — #2 Pancho Power (7-1) should race to winning style two back; #5 Imarealrockinlady (3-1) was troubled at Northfield, returns to home turf; #7 Chatty Devon (20-1) is coming into top form.
Race 8 — #4 Gettin Serious (12-1) is in the best spot since Scioto last August; #9 Golden Compass (7-2) clearly takes on weakest in a while.
