Harness Racing: Betting Preview for the week of Dec. 2

All time zones of North American harness racing tick away as we enter December, and we are on top of the trotting and pacing action with suggested contenders for any wager available. And the never-ending TwinSpires H2W (horses-to-watch list) continues as those Mohawk Miles search for longshots in any class.

MOHAWK MILES

Each week we highlight some probable longshots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

In Race 5– Black Betty: Late blast to finish third from tough trip at 5-1.
In Race 9– The Magic Of Live: A Bet-back that broke and eliminated last week at 5-1.

Some Pick-3 contributions for tickets you construct and probable outsiders good for single-race plays and exotics.

Race 3 (Leg 1)
The conditions include this trot is for two- and three-year-olds, but we are in December and the twos are about to become threes, and so on, and you could call it a wash. Nifty Norman likes Illusional, his Muscle Hill frosh trotter. He brings her back to the Meadowlands after a futile trip at Woodbine where she wanted to gallop, not trot, after showing no interest in racing at all. She was improving in October in qualifiers and tossing out her Woodbine debacle we are ready to back her here at a price.

Edwin Quevedo’s barn is shaking, so using Heartofgold Devie makes sense, especially in single-race exotics. Last week at 3-1 she almost done in the colts.

Race 4 (Leg 2)
A storming three-quarters on the overland route for Deerfield Beach last out in this same, contrived condition saw him tank and that was the worst of three performances for Paul Blumenfeld, who has helped this one improve since taking her back from a fledgling trainer.

Lightly-raced Prologue has had some rough trips and shows a bit of class (by comparison to his foes) going back to the summer. This field may find him at his mediocre best, so to speak, pumping up some single-race exotics and, if he wins, blowing the Pick 3 Jersey-sky high.

Race 5 (Leg 3)
This trot is also leg 1 of another Pick 3. For a good win price and a single Pick-3 exotic blockbuster price, we lean into going against the morning line (ML) Ron Burke dropper (Warrawee Welcome) to support 10-1 ML Shared Interest A. Aside from being handled by Quevedo, the veteran trotter has four productive races under his belt since late fall, when Quevedo took him over, at Pocono, Freehold and Philly.

Dropping to a comfortable level, Lady Resort A may move moderately leaving from post 10 and if she stays afloat could make a strong dent in the exotics for this race.

Meadows
Race 3

Ron Burke’s Slick Mick has done nothing lately—except his last race at Northfield which prompted Ron to send him to the Meadows. On the four-turn mile, Slick Mick was the favorite, though he had some close rivals at the windows. He was steered quickly to get the lead and had to duel to keep second at the half. From there he faded, finishing eighth of eight. This afternoon he drops a bit and meets heavy earners for this company and may be punished for his previous engagement, as well as being off the board five straight times. It could mean a price and is our choice here.
Along with Sweet Beach there pairs what may be a wonderful exacta price.

Three-in-a-row races on this program are worthy of consideration using our contenders.

Race 7
A strong attempt on the four-turn mile last week for Grandrosa left her hanging by three-quarters and passed by fresh pacers in a race won by the obvious first two public choices. One of them was sucked along in a perfect trip behind the other and you guessed it if you picked the catbird-seat winner. The race’s third choice finished sixth, ahead of seventh-place Grandrosa, and that alone makes Grandrosa look much better this week at a price.

Race 8
On Nov. 27 the favorite broke off the gate. Rollwithjessca left a little shaky at 26-1 and was forced to start first over as the rail horse (Snappy Lady), also wide, took the lead. Rollwithjessica stayed wide to three-quarters, never giving up the second spot until a perfect-tripper (29-1) came out to challenge. Rollwithjessica held for third. We like that recent history best of the field for Jessica Millner’s pacer coming into this race.

Race 9
Escape The House was the second choice in her most recent effort, only to disappoint backers by galloping in the stretch, a move that benefited a 25-1 ground-saver to brush the field and win. She draws post 7 here, which may inflate her odds, but may be a blessing in disguise when early lick dries up late and she can storm home.
