Harness Racing: Betting the Mohawk Million

The inaugural Mohawk Million brings together two-year-old colt and filly trotters at Mohawk Park on Saturday.

Although many horses involved have finished first or second in their recent races, it is going to be tough for any to beat King Of The North. He is the 2022 Hambletonian early favorite. Ray Schnittker’s colt scored big in the Peter Haughton Memorial over the summer, winning all but one race since. He earned his way into the Mohawk Million winning the William Wellwood Memorial.

Undefeated filly Venerable, who is 7-for-7, earned a spot in the field winning the Peaceful Way Final and takes on mixed company here—not that that is a detriment. She is as competitive with the males as Ramona Hill was when battling the boys at three (she won the Hambletonian and we were cashing in on her from two on).

Selfie Queen was dynamic winning a Kentucky Sires Stakes final and could be in the mix at a good price. The same goes for The Mighty Hill. This one handily took an Ohio Sires Stakes championship at Northfield and should enjoy having only two turns in a race mile.

The outsiders mentioned could upset with a win, but they could also hit the board and raise the price of exotic payouts if King Of The North is at his best. Using them with King Of The North is the most obvious and likely way to make some money in this. Also, leaving Venerable off any exotic ticket with King Of The North will help a price.
