Harness racing: Dover Downs Pick 3 picks for March 8
A $2 Pick 3 on the third, fourth, and fifth races Monday, March 8 at Dover Downs offers a chance to be rewarded with a quality payoff, and we won’t be spending a great deal to do it.
Building large tickets for these exotic bets is a costly chore that doesn't guarantee a big return, so our strategy is always to find Pick 3s, Pick 4s, and Pick 5s that include mild to medium outsiders.
Let's dive into the sequence and put together a ticket.
Race 3
In six races this season, #5 Half Cut has finished second at this class. He races well and can pick up a win here.
Obviously a major factor, #2 Workin Them Angels will return to his best class and try to make amends for losing as the top favorite last week.
Race 4
Two races back, #3 Dismissal Slip finished second, at 10-1, in the class level just above the level of this race. He has one good closing move for the second part of a mile and could use it here with success.
From the far outside, #8 Northwest Yankee should be rated on his Feb. 15 race, where he was a big favorite but failed for racing too wide. He could fire off the gate quickly enough to get a good spot early and tuck in for an easy trip.
Race 5
Looking for a second-straight win, #7 Duckies Dynasty will move from a claimer into a condition race, which is a good sign he is in shape and his connections are confident.
Sharp at this level, #4 Mr Irresistible did well his last three races, especially for a horse not being strongly bet. He is in a great spot to glide through half of the race and come on late with a winning move.
The ticket
$2 Pick 3: 2 with 5, 3 with 8, 4 with 7 ($16)
