Harness Racing: Hoosier, Mohawk Super Finals On Tap

TwinSpires Staff

October 13th, 2021

In the time until the Breeders Crown, the local stars shine on both sides of the border in state-and -province finals this weekend. With a touch of Courageous Lady action in Ohio, we follow through with our never-ending TwinSpires H2W (horses-to-watch list) and continue a new feature, Mohawk Miles, where we indulge in longshot action.

MOHAWK MILES

Thursday / Oct. 14
Mohawk

Each week we highlight some probable longshots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

Race 1
Aint He Special – Although he finished 11 lengths from the leader at 23-1, Aint He Special made a three-wide attempt to charge at three-quarters, a positive move regardless.

Race 2,
Stormont Mabel – This freshman (by Kadabra) raced evenly in a qualifier to finish third making two promising but modest moves.

INDIANA CROWNS

Friday / Oct. 15
Hoosier

Hefty purses ($250k) for the best in the state-bred divisions fill the fields of the Indiana Sires Stakes finals.

2yo filly pace – Always Gonna B You is the better of two Jeff Cullipher entries that could offer some good coin. The other, Alloutblitz, can compete with her stablemate.

3yo filly trot – Queen Of All slipped past the crowd at 7-1 to win, could do it again.

2yo filly trot – James Yoder’s Macy will be dismissed by the public, but could hit the board along with his other entry, Callmesue, as they are two tops in his barn peaking.

2yo colt trot – Erv Miller’s Panda Adventure towers over these.

3yo filly pace – Trying to beat Hot Mess Express is tough but Somethingbeautiful will make her work for it while hitting the board, if not winning, at a price.

3yo colt trot – Breckenridge was compromised during an early duel but could command here with the right trip for a solid win.

2yo colt pace – Big Law made a big move too quickly last week to lose to a 12-1, but this week a big move at the right time could rattle this field but good.

3yo colt pace – Three Ron Burke entries here and we want to beat them all with Jeff Cullipher’s Goldies Legacy—and we may be in the majority.

BRAVE LADIES

Saturday / Oct. 16
Northfield

The $100,000 Courageous Lady at Northfield presents seven soph-pacing fillies, and it looks tough to make this a feature for win bets because of three words—Test of Faith. She romped at Lexington, her 11th win in 13 starts, and here she meets six others that are none of her concern. As an exotic key horse she may only attain a good price with the two longest shots second and third (criss-cross them). They should be State of Mind and Think of Galaxies. That bet would be courageous.

ONTARIO GOLD

Friday / Oct. 15
Mohawk

The top level of Ontario Sires Stakes (ONSS), the Gold Super ($225k) finals, adorn the program. Here is our report in order of their appearance.

2yo filly pace – Silver Label and Prohibition Legal are both top contenders for Nick Gallucci and they could rule the exacta either way.

2yo filly trot – Of the three fillies by Muscle Mass, Adare Castle is the best. She hammered Mischievous Rose last week and should find her behind again.

3yo filly pace – We’ve been happy with Voelz Delight all season and love her here with longshot Best Keepsake for a strong exacta.

3yo colt trot – Another division standout is set for a big mile, even from post 9. Logan Park will have to mess up a lot to lose this.

2yo colt pace – Here is a field that yearns for an upset and our choice is Magical Arthur. A beaten favorite at Flamboro in a Grassroots ONSS, the lack of turns will suit him well.

2yo colt trot – Duly Resolved’s place in the Mohawk Million was not a fluke. He will be giant trotting anywhere near that mile.

3yo colt pace – Our big strike is here—Desperate Man, who will beat Bulldog Hanover again. So will Powertrain, for a healthy exacta.

3yo filly trot – Up and Ready was the strongest in pursuit of You Will Be Queen last time and is best to take her in this.

H2W Legend
