Harness Racing: Hoosier Park plays for June 16

(Each week, Cotolo employs money-management tactics to build wagers that focus on plump profits.)

For the program on June 16 at Hoosier Park, we suggest some horses for selected plays that may fit in any type of wager.

Race 2

Shipping from Chicago, #4 Coco D’Lascito is in a great spot to excel as a sophomore among the Indiana trotting clan. He comes off a super win in what is left of Illinois stakes, having successfully handling a number of levels through some health problems. A morning line (ML) of 8-1 may be a gift.

Rebounding from a break during his most recent race, the Chapter Seven sophomore #2 Creemore will be a major factor if he does not skip instead of trot. Toss out his May 27 step-up event, he is bred to take on better than this group.

Race 4

Verlin Yoder brings #7 Inquiring Mind back from New York where the Chapter Seven gelding paced far beyond the public’s measurement, finishing second at 11-1 at Vernon against much tougher. That was a bigger step up than moving from "non-winners of one" to "non-winners of two," where he failed at Hoosier on May 27.

Guccio mare #2 Collettes will be working her way back to a classy level with this, her third race of the season. She still has not won since 2019, but makes a decent living collecting purse pieces and can never be counted out as an exotic partner.

Ignore the most recent effort of #8 JS Jasper and you have a fine contender with some neat closing ability, which is useful if he does not show his inherent speed.

Race 7

Racing evenly in her first pari-mutuel race, the late-starting six-year-old Muscle Mass mare #6 Massive Girl must be taken seriously in her second start. She was competent in her qualifier, making the time needed, and her lack of racing experience is a plus among less-successful experienced non-winners since she has not proven to be one of them.

No one can totally dismiss #5 Alloutofaflight. A filly by Swan For All (a Hambletonian competitor from Indiana), Walter Haynes Jr.’s trotter starts her 2021 season with some back class and a top local trainer sending her to battle.

Race 11

Let’s return to #7 Phone Tap, since he scratched last week, and review why we liked him there: Galloping to start on June 2 at Northfield, Phone Tap got back on stride but did not regain much interest in the remainder of the mile. He returns to Hoosier, where he last did best, and could justify his stature racing away from fairs on the Ohio sires-stakes circuit with a good performance, if not his best.

There is more than a touch of class going for #9 Wal Finest in his first 2021 appearance. On the Ohio-bred stakes platform he faced far greater competition than these and could be a force in this late in the mile at a big price for being underestimated.

Race 13

With little problem overcoming the outside launch, #10 Timeto Communicate is apt to send a strong message in this mile. Joe Putnam’s gelding is a beaten favorite in a strong April and his May 15 qualifier, where he ate up real estate, cannot be ignored as a factor for a reasonable win here. He did not race at two, so he is reflecting all knocks.

The ML punishes #4 Go With Joe, who comes from Vernon off a fine first effort of the season. This is a Roll With Joe sophomore starting a career at three with no reason to dismiss yet and every reason to back him at a great price.
