Harness Racing: Picks and Horses to Watch for Feb. 10-12

We are back with suggested contenders for selected features and our never-ending TwinSpires’ horses-to-watch list (H2W) for wins, places and show and exotics.

MOHAWK MILES

Each week we highlight some probable long shots from Mohawk Park in this features section. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as a bet-back while adding new possibilities to this Mohawk Miles section.

Race 1 – Skylar: raced evenly in a qualifier and is ready for a good mile.
Race 9 – Moonlitebeach: stalled after an outside challenge to the leader.

Thursday, Feb. 10

Yonkers - Races 4, 5, 6

A Pick-3 ticket seems a good shot here, along with the usual single-race wagering offers.

Race 4
Corsini A won convincingly at Freehold, grinding a win from the 8-hole start, and shifts to racing under the lights for more money.

Race 5
Bet-backs Anne Bonney N and Malnificent should have the chances and prices we like here. The former was close early (43-1) with her position buried midway. Finishing in front of her, the latter (7-1) took to the outside and pushed but the favorite won this with no challenges.

Race 6
Major Battle finished second at the Meadowlands, earning every step at 9-1. This step-up placement is truly not much of a change except for the extra turns.

Friday, Feb. 11

Hawthorne - Race 6

From Gerald Hansen’s hot barn, Robertsgladerunner gets another shot at local foes in this affair. Last week he made a path on the outside with a strong challenge but was hammered late in the chase at 11-1. He leaves farther outside here which should increase his odds though he has the kind of brush that could be fast late to score.

Saturday, Feb. 12

Meadowlands - Races 2, 5, 8

Race 2
In an evenly gathered claiming group, we have to go with Edwin Quevado’s Pirates Alley. He returns after a gallant trip from behind making up nine lengths to get a piece of the purse.

Race 5
Montana Chief A goes for his second race of the season for Erv Miller and his first, finishing third at 13-1 was a good prep for this, where post 9 won’t hurt the odds.

Race 8
The only other entry from the Erv Miller barn, No Win No Feed A has been on fire in three events, winning two. Along with H2W entry (see below) Alexa Skye, exotics could go aflame, too.

Horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track with the date of their race and the race number (R6) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name, it appears on the list for the second time (horses are listed twice only if, at first, they failed to win. An “ae” signals also-eligible. Types of wagers to make are based on your judgment.
