Thursday, March 10

Each week we highlight some probable long shots from Mohawk Park. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as bet-backs or in selected features, adding new possibilities to this section.

Race 4 – Afair Somewhere: Good qualifier proves fitness and spunk.
Race 10 – Baywatching: Comes off a decent win at this track, going for Shayne Barrington this time.

Thursday, March 10

Mohawk, Race 6 - ONTARIO GIRLS

The Ontario Girls pacing series final for four-year-old mares is worth $42k to a field of seven. Just Daisy’s dead-heat for second with Village Jade was earned, while the latter sat drafting favorite Awesome Hill. “Daisy” with “Hill” may be the final call at the wire but that will be a poor price. Daisy with Share The Moment (either way) however, is the surprise ending that pays best.

Friday, March 11

Cal Expo, Race 4

Four-year-old pacing mares race for $20k in a California Sires Stakes (CASS), proving that breeding standardbreds exists on the West Coast. A sextet of similarly classed femmes go to post.

On paper, Ryan Grundy’s Senga Nightmare is the cream of this crop in every handicapping aspect except for her last race. We forgive the last-place finish considering she was the public’s second choice and barely moved her legs. Along with the other obvious entry here, Tartan Patch, the first two over the wire should be them and we back the higher promised price to win, followed by the other.

Hawthorne, Race 5

In his first start of the season, Big Beach had an uneven trip, finishing last of nine at 52-1, but with an excuse at each call. He was rolling well at the end in a tight bunch approaching the wire. His second trip this season could surprise the public with an upset.

Exotic players need respect Keene William, who got second for us in last week’s Chicago feature, and Frontier Metis, whose loss in that mile at 50-1 died from a duel.

Saturday, March 12

Northville, Races 1, 2

On opening weekend at the Michigan oval we shoot for a parlay and/or Daily Double along with the w/p/s.

Race 1
This trot opens the program with the locals coming from qualifiers and Art McIlmurray’s Nox paced tough to stat and wound up short in her primer on March 3 but looks ready to sail at a price from post 7 to start the Michigan veteran driver/trainer with a win.

Race 2
On the same day for qualifiers, Sierras Spirit won wire to wire, drawing off late, and should be a lot faster than she had to be to meet the standard. She has beaten the likes of these on home ground and should show up at the wire with or without late challengers.
