Harness Weekly Update: 41% in the money

July 17th, 2022

The TwinSpires Harness Blog Weekly Update covers our successes and failures from selected features, stakes, and the H2W (horses-to-watch list). H2W horses through the following Monday appear in the next Update’s results.

Thursday, July 14

This week’s Mohawk Miles selections featured a pair of winners, though the public was wise. Twin B Showmance ($3.00, $2.20, $2.10) and Staythirsty De Vie ($3.00, $2.50, $2.30) were best.

Friday, July 15

Sires stakes in Pennsylvania at the Meadows brought home a $17.80 exacta with Keg Stand ($3.80, $2.40, $2.20) and Outside The Fire ($3.60, $2.80). In the second split the winner was Dandy ($5.80, $3.60, $2.60) while our other contender, Fiftyfour K (7-2), finished fifth.

Saturday, July 16

The Meadowlands Pace was a snooze-fest as the chalky favorite won, and we took fourth with Night Hawk (5-2). Caviart Camden (80-1) was a dud from start to finish.

The favorites won the two divisions of the Del Miller. They were our contenders—Fashion Schooner ($4.00, $2.20, $2.20) and Joviality S ($2.60, $2.10, $2.10).

We lost both divisions of the Stanley Dancer, first by a favorite with our colt, Fast As The Wind (5-1), finishing fifth and next with King Of The North ($3.60, $2.60) losing to a 12-1 shot.

A 16-1 longshot swept up the Mistletoe Shalee with a late rush but it was not our longshot. Lyons Serenity (48-1) broke at the start and was the penultimate finisher. Favorite Treacherous Dragon ($2.10) finished third.

The fastest harness race of all time was recorded when Bulldog Hanover ($2.40, $2.10, $2.10) won the William Haughton Memorial in 1:45.4. Our other contender, Catch The Fire (41-1), finished ninth as no speed duels hampered the favorite’s result to give him a chance.

In the Hambletonian Maturity, our choice Incommunicado (24-1) did not “get a fair start,” according to the judges as the starting gate pushed him beyond the pylons before the race officially began. All bets on the trotter were refunded.

H2W LIST RESULTS

The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Exactas listed include a H2W horse finishing second to a race-favorite or if the first two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses form a cold exotic combo; most base prices are $2). The note “OK” determines that prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a place price or all prices are the same).

Please note that some results reflect horses racing after the blog posts (they appear the following week).

This week, there were 34 H2W horses (12% win-hit rate and a 41% ATB [across-the-board] hit). Horses with asterisks before their names were tweets @FrankCotolo. Follow for late choices.
