Harness Weekly Update: Bombs away with $96 and $62 winners

The TwinSpires Harness Blog Weekly Update covers our successes and failures from selected features and the H2W (horses-to-watch list). H2W horses through the following Monday appear in the next Update’s results.

Thursday, Mar. 2

This week’s trio of Mohawk Miles (MM) contenders found only one to hit the board. Larry Is Debs Rock ($3.60) was beaten by an 11-1 shot. Reys N A Rocket went off the favorite and finished sixth, while Its A Long Story (13-1) lost to the race favorite and finished seventh.

At Monticello, our suggested Power Plays began with a winning favorite, Esai Hanover ($2.90, $2.40, $2.30), to help exotic players. The following race also helped Power Plays bettors when our contender Haymitch ($6.60, $2.80) finished second.

Friday, Mar. 3

Our Yonkers feature delivered two of the three triple numbers with Better Up ($6.60, $4.00) second and Pedro Hanover ($3.80) third.

Saturday, Mar. 4

Our Meadowlands Pick 4 contenders were no help to any ticket. In order: Lexus Kody, a favorite, finished fifth, and Flip The Switch scratched. Ladyford Dollar GB ($5.40) finished third. Ohoka Chopper N (4-1) finished seventh, and Shadow Cat (23-1) took fifth, while Shine A Light was seventh.

H2W LIST RESULTS

The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Exactas listed include a H2W horse finishing second to a race-favorite or if the first two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses are listed—a cold exacta). The note “OK” determines that prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a place price or all prices are the same).

NEWS & NOTES

The Meadowlands added a second 10-cent Hi-5 this week. The mile oval is currently presenting 14-race programs on Fridays and Saturdays with a first-race post of 6:20 p.m. (ET). The “Prime Time Hi-5” is the seventh wager The Meadowlands offers with a low takeout of 15%. Each Hi-5 has a 10-cent minimum wager. The Big M offers the traditional non-jackpot Hi-5 in order to keep the actual takeout at a low 15% for the benefit of the horseplayer.

The 2022 Roll With Joe presented harness racing’s biggest star, Bulldog Hanover, winning in his usual dazzling way in 1:46. With this year’s edition, the stakes event held at The Meadowlands is renamed “The Dave Brower Memorial” in honor of another standout in harness racing. Brower, the track’s longtime lead TV personality, morning-line odds maker and program analyst, passed away at 53 on assignment in Kentucky, during a week when he was the TV point man at The Red Mile. The Dave Brower Memorial takes place on July 1.
