June 25th, 2023

The TwinSpires Harness Blog Weekly Update covers our successes and failures from selected features and the H2W (horses-to-watch list). H2W horses through the following Monday appear in the next Update’s results.

Thursday, June 22

Our Mohawk Miles contenders went two for three hitting the board. Villefranche AS ($2.60, $2.20), the crowd choice, lost to a 20-1 shot, and Godiva Shadow Girl ($4.40) finished third to the favorite. Stonebridge Drama (4-1) finished fifth.

Only one winner came from our Pick 4 contenders. Walkin On Sunshine ($4.40, $2.80, $2.20) won the second leg. The others, in order of their finishing spots, were Maybemabel (5-2), fourth; Bluebird Alibi (19-1), fifth; Little Jolena (17-1), sixth; Call Out My Name (6-5), sixth; Tellittoella (26-1), sixth; and Luckiestmanalive (35-1), seventh.

Friday, June 23

Favorites landed in Yonkers’ two elims for soph-colt trotters while we were fourth with Manclane (27-1) and seventh-placed sixth with Country Dagger (32-1). The filly pacers brought us Lisa Lane ($3.70, $2.60) second to the winning favorite for a $4.40 exacta, and Turn On The Charm (5-1) finished fourth.

Saturday, June 24

Graduates at the Meadowlands were chalky. We were fourth with Trendy Teen (8-1) and eighth with Birthday (57-1). Cool Papa Bell scratched.

H2W LIST RESULTS

The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Exactas listed include a H2W horse finishing second to a race-favorite or if the first two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses are listed—a cold exacta). The note “OK” determines that prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a place price or all prices are the same).

Please note that some results reflect horses racing after the blog posts (they appear the following week).

This week, there were 43 active H2W horses (a 12% win hit rate and a 44% ATB [across-the-board] hit). Horses with asterisks before their names were tweets @FrankCotolo. Follow for late choices.

NEWS & NOTES

Vernon Downs awaits the New York governor’s signature, allowing it to remain open for racing. Owner Jeff Gural said, "The only reason I bought Vernon from bankruptcy was the seven-eighths mile track, which I felt was important to the sire stakes and those breeding horses, mainly trotters, for the program, of which I am one.” He said it was important to him that workers Vernon keep their jobs. Vernon Downs is now in its 70th season, racing Friday and Saturday evenings through Nov. 18.

Owner Richard Young will not supplement Its My Show--the North America Cup winner--to the Meadowlands Pace. Thus, he does not appear in our top 10 rankings for the classic pace. Our contenders follow, though the final odds will define our bet.
