Harness Weekly Update: $62 place, $30 exacta, double-digit winners
The TwinSpires Harness Blog Weekly Update covers our successes and failures from selected features and the H2W (horses-to-watch list). H2W horses through the following Monday appear in the next Update’s results.
Thursday, June 2
This week’s Mohawk Miles selections included a failed favorite, Jim Strikesitrich, finishing seventh and a refund for Blue Bayou Deo (31-1).
Our Philly feature offered the wrong longshot. A 31-1 outsider beat our 32-1 Juminthejailhouse, who finished sixth. We were second with the obvious Silent Symbol ($2.20, $2.10) and failed in all exotics adding Serrano Volo (5-1), finishing fifth.
Friday, June 3
In the leg 2 Graduate for mare trotters at Mohawk, Incommunicado (2-1) broke badly at the start and never got into the race, which was won by 13-1 Logan Park.
Saturday, June 4
At Mohawk, favorites routed well and beat us. In the Somebeachsomewhere pair, we were third with Sport Secret which was void of betting, and our other soph, Greatest Ending, scratched.
In the Graduates leg 2 mare pace, we were fifth with Off The Record (46-1) and seventh in the first horse pace with Lawless Shadow (9-1). Both of those races were won by the public choice. Then, in the second horse pace, the public choice became our choice, Linedrive Hanover, who finished fourth.
H2W LIST RESULTS
The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Exactas listed include a H2W horse finishing second to a race-favorite or if the first two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses form a cold exotic combo; most base prices are $2). The note “OK” determines that prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a place price or all prices are the same).
Please note that some results reflect horses racing after the blog posts (they appear the following week).
This week, there were 52 H2W horses (13% win-hit rate and a 40% ATB [across-the-board] hit). Horses with asterisks before their names were tweets @FrankCotolo. Follow for late choices.

NEWS & NOTES
There is a change for Northfield Park's harness racing schedule. The track will pick up racing on Monday nights beginning June 6 and will be dark on Tuesday nights. Monday night racing features the standard guaranteed pools in with a 14% takeout Pick 4 (Race 11) and Super Hi-5 (Race 13). The Ohio facility continues to race four days a week through the summer and beginning of fall, with action taking place on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday nights.
Tioga announced a reduction in the 2022 racing calendar due to a shortage of overnight horses. For the remainder of the 2022 season, Tioga will race two live cards per week and add a third on those weeks that include a sires-stakes event. There are no changes to the NYSS schedule. Tioga VP of Racing Jason Settlemoir said, "It’s becoming apparent the horse shortage that Jeff Gural and I have spoken about for years is real and wreaking havoc on the entry boxes in our sport.” The following dates have been deleted for 2022 racing: June 10; June 17; July 2 (racing live on July 4); July 8; July 29; and Friday, Aug. 5.
The 2022 C$1 million Pepsi North America Cup for soph pacers is Canada’s harness's biggest harness purse. This year's “Cup” is contested on June 18 at Mohawk. Here are our top seven choices as of June 6:
- Night Hawk
- Pebble Beach
- Ario Hanover
- Stonebridge Helios
